The Cardiac Sonographer will perform all echocardiographic diagnostic modalities with the ability to utilize a variety of equipment to determine accurate assessment of cardiac function, anatomy and physiology flow parameters. Education and Experience Requirements: Completion of a two-year Allied Health degree and successful completion of a 12 month CAAHEP approved School of Ultrasound Technology, or Cardiovascular Technology, or equivalent education. Work requires sufficient education/training to acquire American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification in cardiac ultrasound, Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS). ARDMS/CCI Certification within twelve months of employment. Required clinical hours to become registry eligible. Must be knowledgeable and demonstrate competency on current practice of echocardiography: cognitive, technical, interpersonal and communication skills necessary for the performance of adult, geriatric, adolescent echocardiography. Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
