System Technology, Inc. is looking for an experienced mechanical engineer to design, document and oversee the installation of complex conveyor solutions and packaging equipment for various automated packaging manufacturing applications. As an experienced Mechanical Engineer II, you will understand project scope, follow standard engineering processes, design within the budget, release drawings to meet the schedule, and provide necessary input and troubleshooting required during the on-site production and assembly process. You will collaborate closely with other departments and all design disciplines, as well as other internal resources to meet the specified requirements of your projects. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to be involved with your projects from start to finish.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in discovery meetings and conversations with sales team and/or customer - specifically with larger jobs at the quoting level - for input and understanding of the scope of the project and design requirements.
  • Design cost effective, comprehensive mechanical solutions inclusive of conveyor and all peripheral packaging equipment necessary and present comprehensive engineering solutions linking design elements to specific customer requirements.
  • Develop detailed drawing packages for approval and release including engineering bill of materials (BOM's), system details and installation drawings.
  • Revise drawings as required through detailing, manufacturing, or field changes.
  • Provide support to sales team and account managers with ensuring your design is properly understood for installation at the customer's site.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering team for project automation and design elements.
  • Support project management at all levels with system commissioning.
  • Support objectives for design direction, quality, budget and schedule.
  • Design projects using SolidWorks, and organize and manage SolidWorks files.
  • Interact with customer as needed during various phases of the project.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.S.M.E.)
  • 3 years of mechanical conveyor solution design
  • 3 years of automated packaging line equipment design 
  • Experience in automated packaging industry (food sanitation/wash down) is a major plus
  • Experience designing a variety of conveyor systems
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks is REQUIRED (PDM a major plus)
  • Experience with SigmaNEST a plus
  • Proficiency in AutoCad, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize work
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Commute must be within 30 miles (no exceptions - unable to consider applicants from Chicago due to length of commute)
