Job Description Summary Bozeman Health Medical Group is now hiring an experienced Advanced Practice Clinician (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) for a full-time position in our critical access hospital, Bozeman Health Big Sky Medical Center. The advance practice clinician (APC) in this role will be primarily responsible for managing, with supervision from the emergency physicians, acute and swing bed patients in our inpatient unit. When inpatient census is low, the APC will also have the opportunity to assist in seeing patients in the emergency department, primary care clinic, and mountain-based urgent care facilities. The primary responsibility of the APC will be to provide in-patient care that will include; daily rounding, writing orders, facilitation of hospital admissions and discharges, providing discharge instructions and education, assisting and performing minor procedures. Competency in, or willingness to learn, vascular access procedures is preferred, including peripheral IV and PICC line placement. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in inpatient practice, acute care certification, as well as familiarity with emergency and/or urgent care. This position may offer some variation in practice site (Big Sky Medical Center inpatient unit, emergency department, family medicine clinic, or mountain urgent cares) depending on seasonal volume. Today, Bozeman Health is the largest private employer in Gallatin Valley with more than 2,400 employees. Big Sky Medical Center is a critical access hospital with 8 inpatient beds, a 6 bed emergency department, and an active family medicine clinic including behavioral health and visiting orthopedic surgery, general surgery, and other specialty clinics. The inpatient unit is supported by an in-house physical therapist and case manager. We partner with 2 slopeside urgent care ("b2") facilities, staffed by APCs, within 15 minutes' drive to the hospital, who regularly send us patients and whose providers are important members of our medical staff. It is home to "the Biggest Skiing in America" as well as great access to nordic sports, mountain biking, fishing, snowmobiling, rafting, rock climbing, hiking, and more. Although unincorporated, Big Sky has a strong sense of place, a loyal, close-knit community, highly rated K-12 public schools, a brand-new community center with indoor sports & fitness facilities, and a dynamic economy of local-owned restaurants, shops, and businesses. A one-hour drive to Bozeman, MT brings another level of economic, educational, retail, and cultural opportunities. Position Summary The APC, under the direction of a supervising physician, will function as an independent healthcare provider working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team to provide comprehensive care in a variety of settings while demonstrating a high degree of clinical expertise. Provides direct individualized patient care and treatment with responsibility for assessing, examining, diagnosing, and analyzing the patient's current health condition and developing short and long-term goals and treatment plans. Functions within the defined scope of clinical practice as outlined by applicable state law, licensing, certification, regulations, institutional policy and practice agreements. APCs employed by Bozeman Health or affiliates will have a current MD supervision agreement and duties and delegations agreement (clinical privileges) in place as per Montana State Board of Medical Examiners requirements. Minimum Qualifications Master’s Degree of Physician Assistant Studies OR Master’s Degree in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice Degree Board certification as Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Montana Licensure DEA License American Heart Association PALS ACLS ATLS (within one year of hire) Preferred qualifications Acute care certification 2 years inpatient experience Urgent care experience Essential Job Functions Provides quality, efficient and effective evidence-based patient care, consultation as requested, advisement and/or initiation of treatment plans while following standard of care within specialty scope of practice. Directs patient care by examining, diagnosing, and analyzing the patient's current health condition, performing comprehensive admission history and physical exams, consultative notes, admission and discharge summaries, progress notes, writing orders and prescriptions and performing and or assisting with procedures per defined scope of practice for specialty area. Recognizes when a patient's needs exceeds the capabilities of the critical access hospital and, with assistance from the emergency department/physician, is familiar with the process of transferring patients to a higher level of care. Is financially responsible for all aspects relating to transcription/coding. Participates in quality/performance initiatives, research activities, education, development of policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines as indicated, and implements the standards of care within the area of specialization.
