Human Resource Specialist

(Temporary Position until October 2025)

Summary of Job:

The Human Resource Specialist is a highly organized and detail-oriented position. This role supports a wide range of HR functions including employee engagement, recruitment, onboarding and offboarding, HR reporting and analysis, compliance, and volunteer program coordination.

You will also be cross-trained in various HR responsibilities, have the opportunity to participate in department-wide projects, and provide coverage for other HR functions as needed. Essential Job Duties:

1.Employee Engagement
  • Develop and implement initiatives to promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Coordinate employee recognition programs, team-building events, and feedback initiatives.
  • Conduct engagement surveys, if needed under the direction of CHRO and HR Supervisor.
2. Recruitment
  • Coordinate and support full-cycle recruitment efforts including job postings, screening, scheduling interviews, and communicating with candidates, if needed.
  • Maintain accurate applicant tracking and provide regular updates on recruitment metrics.
  • Assist with onboarding new hires, ensuring a seamless transition into the organization.
3. Onboarding & Offboarding
  • Manage all aspects of onboarding including background checks, drug screening, documentation, orientation, and systems access.
    • Manage all aspects of onboarding including conduct DOJ, Guardian and other post-offer/pre-hire items, such as referrals for health physicals, drug testing, reference checks, associating/disassociating employees to CDC sites, documentation, orientation, and systems access.
      • Ensure new hires feel welcomed and supported from day one.
      • Send exit interviews, compile feedback, and collect company equipment.
      • Process all offboarding paperwork and update systems accordingly.
      4. Volunteer Program Support
      • Assist with the recruitment, onboarding, and engagement of volunteers.
      • Maintain accurate volunteer records and schedules.
      • Help coordinate volunteer recognition and communication efforts.
      • Support department leads in identifying and fulfilling volunteer needs.
      5. HR Reporting & Analysis
      • Maintain employee records and HR systems with a high level of accuracy.
      • Generate reports and analyze metrics related to headcount, turnover, engagement, and more.
      • Ensure data integrity and compliance in all reporting efforts.
      7. Cross-Functional Support & Projects
      • Be cross-trained in various HR functions to provide flexible support across the team (i.e. Payroll, Workers Comp, Engagement, other tasks, as needed).
      • Participate in department initiatives, special projects, and process improvements.
      • Provide backup coverage for other HR team members as needed.
      • Other duties as assigned.
      Minimum Qualifications:
      • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
      • 2+ years of experience in an HR role with exposure to recruitment, onboarding, and employee engagement.
      • Familiarity with HRIS and applicant tracking systems.
      • Understanding of HR best practices and employment laws.
      • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
      • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality.
      • Comfortable in a fast-paced and team-oriented setting.
      • Background Fingerprint Clearance
      • Drug Test Clearance
      • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
      Licenses & Certifications:
      • Current CA Driver's License & proof of Automobile Insurance
      Physical & Mental Demands:
      • Office Environment requires a lot of time in front of computer.
      • Ability to remain calm and responsive when accidents occur with employees.
      • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
