Anesthesia Technician

POSITION SUMMARY
Actively participates in the creation of an environment that fosters patient, family, physician and employee satisfaction. Ensures decisions are made based on Family Centered Care philosophy. Serves as a technical resource to Anesthesia medical staff. Addresses needs promptly with attention to detail. Provides support to daily operations of the Anesthesia Department.
ACCOUNTABILITIES

Cleans the daily software (masks, tubes, scopes), equipment surfaces, carts, etc. Stocks all carts and supply center locations.

Maintains aseptic technique, which includes observation of the surgical team. Promptly addresses any observed breaks in aseptic technique.

Troubleshoots equipment and monitors. Coordinates routine maintenance and repairs with the Biomedical Department. Responds to requests/pages promptly. Demonstrates knowledge of anesthesia equipment based on the age of the patient.

Performs quality assurance functions of monitors and machines used by the department. Includes monthly cleaning of equipment and physical areas.

Assists in preparing OR with supplies and equipment utilizing department policies and procedures, physician preferences, and age related requirements.

Procures and delivers needed supplies, specimens, blood, equipment, and anesthesia related monitoring equipment from other departments.

Reprocesses (cleans, tests, wraps, sterilizes) reusable anesthesia software (laryngoscope blades, LMA’s, flexible bronchoscopes, TEE probes). Assists in record keeping of sterilization process.

Provides calibration and performance check of anesthesia equipment according to determined standards.

Operates the sterilizers, dryer, cart washer, and 444 washer sterilizer using the manufacturer’s recommendations. Ensures that the processed items meet technical standards and that the process of sterilization is absolute through the use of control procedures in the sterilization process.

Participates in department task teams as assigned.

Collaborates with other health care professionals in meeting departmental goals. Establishes and maintains mechanisms for communication and constructive problem solving with staff. Utilizes a team approach in decision-making and problem solving. Build trust and mutual respects. Supports and promotes decentralized model for decision-making.

Performs all other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Skills: Must be able to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries. Requires effective interpersonal skills. Must be able to input and retrieve information from computer.
Years of Experience: Two to three (2-3) years’ minimum hospital experience required.
Certification: Must have BLS.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Personal Protective Equipment: Must be able to wear full PPE/Surgical attire.
Physical Demands: Must be able to move about and between workstations. Must be able to lift medium materials, non-material handling of: continuous standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching; frequent pushing, pulling and squatting. Occasional sitting, stairs and kneeling. Must be able to tolerate exposure to hazardous materials, occasionally work at heights, differentiate between colors, and work with tools, manuals and technical motors.
