Last Energy seeks an experienced Neutronics Engineer to play a crucial role in performing advanced reactor design calculations, focusing on core design and fuel cycle analyses. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of the PWR-20 micro nuclear reactor.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

    • Conduct comprehensive neutronic analyses for reactor core design, including but not limited to fuel loading patterns, burnup calculations, and criticality safety assessments
    • Utilize advanced modeling and simulation tools (such as VERA, RELAP5-3D, MCNP, SCALE, RADTRAD, COMSOL, or CASMO5) to perform simulations and analyses, ensuring accurate and reliable results
    • Collaborate closely with the licensing and safety analysis teams to establish and refine technical specifications that meet minimum viable standards for regulatory approval and operational safety
    • Engage in continuous improvement efforts to enhance simulation methodologies, tool capabilities, and overall design processes
    • Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements, and regulatory changes that impact neutronic analysis and reactor design
Qualifications
    • BS, MS, or PhD in Nuclear Engineering, or a related degree (e.g., physics with nuclear concentration)
    • 5+ years of relevant experience in nuclear engineering or a closely related field
    • Proficient with one or more neutronics and thermal-hydraulic modeling and simulation tools such as VERA, RELAP (RELAP5-3D), MCNP, SCALE, RADTRAD, COMSOL, or CASMO (CASMO5)
    • Strong understanding of reactor physics, nuclear materials, and fuel cycle analysis
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams, including collaboration with licensing and safety analysis professionals
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to provide innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges
