Speech and Language Pathologist (Autism Unit) - Travelers Rest, South Carolina
Department: Autism Unit
Salary: $80K-$100K
Hours are flexible, staff will be paid for 40 hours a week as long as they get close to 40 each week.

JOB SUMMARY:
Provides individual and group Speech Therapy services to children and adolescents with developmental delays/impairments, mental, physical, and emotional disabilities, autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and related diagnoses, such as ADD, ADHD, or sensory-processing disorder clients. The goal of the therapy is to enable patients to gain more confidence and independence as they learn or regain their ability to communicate. Works with clients on a one-to-one basis, and in groups, to deliver therapy. As a member of a healthcare team, education and instruction is provided to Mental Health Associates and other direct care providers to reinforce repetitive activities that are needed to reinforce the treatment process and accomplish desired goals.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Master's Degree from an American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) accredited university

EXPERIENCE: One year experience working with school aged children with developmental delays sensory processing challenges, autism, regulatory challenges and learning disabilities

LICENSURE: Appropriate South Carolina licensure or ability to obtain appropriate state licensure. Certificate of Clinical Competency is preferred (CCC-SLP).

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Reports to: Director of Autism Services
  • An understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders and related sensory processing and integration issues. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must relate well to children and their families. Knowledgeable of evidence-based speech practices found to benefit children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
  • Ability to evaluate and diagnose speech, language and cognitive-communication disorders.
  • Ability to treat speech, language and cognitive-communication disorders in school-aged children.
  • Demonstrate good judgment, decision-making, and communication skills with a variety of individuals and groups. Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong working knowledge in all applicable computer programs (Microsoft Office).

ENVIRONMENT: Well-lit, climate-controlled classrooms with accesses to phone. Noise level is moderate with intercom paging, phone ringing, office equipment and patient interactions.

WORK RELATIONSHIPS: (Including inter-and interdepartmental): Must be able to work well with clinical staff, department heads, physicians, therapists, caseworkers, parents/guardians and administrative staff. Contact with hospital visitors may be common.

JOB HAZARDS: May be exposed to hazardous wastes found in clinical and non-clinical areas. There may be exposure to verbal and physical aggression and/or infectious conditions when patient contact is frequent.
