• Counsel individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their educational or vocational situations.
• Provide crisis intervention to students when difficult situations occur at schools.
• Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, administrators, and other professionals to discuss children's progress, resolve behavioral, academic, and other problems, and to determine priorities for students and their resource needs.
• Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
• Prepare students for later educational experiences by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
• Evaluate students' or individuals' abilities, interests, and personality characteristics using tests, records, interviews, or professional sources.
• Identify cases of domestic abuse or other family problems and encourage students or parents to seek additional assistance from mental health professionals.
• Counsel students regarding educational issues, such as course and program selection, class scheduling and registration, school adjustment, truancy, study habits, and career planning.
• Provide special services such as alcohol and drug prevention programs and classes that teach students to handle conflicts without resorting to violence.
• Conduct follow-up interviews with counselees to determine if their needs have been met.

Readstechnical instructions, charts, and/or procedures manuals; composes routinereports and completes job forms; speaks compound sentences using standardgrammar.

COMPLEXITY OFWORK: "Complexityof Work" addresses the analysis, initiative, ingenuity, creativity, andconcentration required by the position and the presence of any unusualpressures.

Performscoordinating work involving guidelines and rules with constant problem solving;requires continuous, close attention for accurate results or frequent exposureto unusual pressure.

IMPACT OFDECISIONS: "Impact of Decisions" refers toconsequences such as damage to property, loss of data or property, exposure ofthe organization to legal liability, or injury or death to individuals.

Makesdecisions with moderate impact - affects those in work unit.

EQUIPMENT USAGE:"EquipmentUsage" refers to inanimate objects such as substances, materials, machines,tools, equipment, work aids, or products. A thing is tangible and has shape, form, and other physicalcharacteristics.

Handlesmachines involving moderate latitude for judgment regarding attainment ofstandard or in selecting appropriate items.

SAFETY OF OTHERS: "Safety of Others"refers to the responsibility for other people's safety, either inherent in thejob or to assure the safety of the general public.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEREQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONREQUIREMENTS: "EducationRequirements" refers to job specific training and education required for entryinto the position.

High school or GED required; bachelor'sdegree in a related field preferred.

LICENSES,CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: "Licenses,Certifications, and Registrations" refers to professional, state, or federallicenses, certifications, or registrations required to enter the position.

Valid Tennessee Driver's Licenserequired, CDL endorsement preferred.

EXPERIENCEREQUIREMENTS: "ExperienceRequirements" refers to the amount of work experience that is required forentry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation that theperson can perform the tasks required by the position.

Minimum of five years directlyapplicable experience supervising a work team.

Morespecific degree, certification, and experience requirements will be included inthe position announcement as vacancies occur.
