Position Job Title: Plumber II

Nature of Work:

This position performs plumbing services required to maintain, improve, and provide a functional and safe learning environment for students, staff, and the public.

Employee is responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of water and waste disposal systems. The employee receives work assignments by written or oral work orders which are performed in accordance with accepted practices. Employees resolve most problems independently, except for work of an unusual nature, in which a supervisor may be consulted. Employee receives limited supervision. Employee operates equipment such as lifts.

The employee assists other employees/trades and performs a variety of general maintenance and manual labor tasks as needed. Employee practices safe work procedures.

Essential Duties Assigned To This Position:

Measures, cuts, threads, assembles, and installs pipes and tubing.
Connects valves, caulks, joints, and tests finished job by allowing water to flow through.
Installs water, sanitary fixtures and equipment with supports, hangers, or foundations.
Eliminates leaks by repacking valves or by replacing faulty fittings or sections in line.
Replaces worn parts.
Makes corrections as needed.
Determines and requests type and quantities of materials needed.
Observes/monitors contracted work as needed.
Performs general maintenance and manual labor tasks as needed.
Assists other employees/trades as needed.
Maintains and records material purchases and man-hour expenditures.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Working knowledge of the techniques, methods, and tools of the plumbing trade.
Skill in the use of tools, materials, and equipment used in plumbing work.
Ability to understand and carry out oral or written instructions.
Considerable knowledge of the use of a variety of hand and power tools.
Working knowledge, experience, and skill in the operation of equipment/machinery.
Ability and physical strength sufficient to move objects.
Ability to keep and submit accurate records for material purchases and man-hour expenditures.
Work independently in the absence of supervision.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Training, Experience, and Special Requirements:

High Diploma or equivalent.
3 years of considerable and progressively advanced experience in plumbing work.
Must hold a valid NC driver's license
