Job Description: A Speech-Language Language Pathologist

Assignment: 1.0 FTE

Reports to: Department Co-Supervisors, District Director of Special Services and High School Administration

Qualifications:
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) endorsed for speech-language pathology
  • Master's degree in Speech and Language Pathology
  • Must also hold a Speech-Language Pathology license issued by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation (IDPR) (may be a temporary license) or a Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech-Language Pathology from ASHA and proof of application for the IDPR license
  • Experience working with high school students with Autism Spectrum Disorders preferred
  • Fluent in Spanish preferred
Calendar: 185 days

Employee status: Bargaining unit member

Professional/Personal Characteristics:
  • Provide screening and diagnostic services for students referred through systematic referral process
  • Provide interpretation of test results including evaluations from outside agencies if necessary
  • Attend Team Meetings and IEP meetings on assigned students as case manager or related service provider
  • Develop and implement individual educational plans for identified students as the case manager or related service provider, and meet all mandated deadlines
  • Complete written goal progress updates as required throughout the school year
  • Report on each student's progress toward selected goals annually in writing
  • Provide direct and consultative services to identified students with speech-language impairments in 1:1, small group and classroom-based settings as appropriate
  • Provide evidence-based intervention that is appropriate to the age and learning needs of each individual student and is selected through an evidence-based decision-making process
  • Support steps that allow students with speech and language disabilities to have equal access to curriculum, school activities and facilities
  • Remediate speech language deficits involving social communication/language pragmatics, phonology, morphology, semantics, syntax, and or perception; and establish these skills in daily communication
  • Incorporate academic skills, both written and verbal whenever possible
  • Collaborate with a team in the development of social thinking-based activities to support students with autism spectrum needs and related disorders, including individualized and group delivery of services
  • Provide in-service training and consultation to teachers when requested
  • Utilize technology in the provision of speech services, including Tier I 1:1 device as well as assistive and/or augmentative communication device, when appropriate
  • Serve as a member of multi-disciplinary teams in student assessment, placement, and progress review
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents and other providers, including 8th grade staff, in order to share information and expertise to plan and implement effective student programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned
