Job Description

BCS Allegient has an immediate opening for a Technical Writer to join our growing team supporting the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and their facilities at the National Energy Technology Laboratory. BCS Allegiant has a 35-year history of helping government, research, and private sector clients implement their programs and missions and achieve success. The ideal candidate will support a variety of writing and editing related tasks. Some of these tasks may include: organizing material and completing writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology, may maintain records and files of work and revisions, may select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material, assist in laying out material for publication, and arrange for typing, duplication and distribution of material. This writer may draft speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases, or specialize in writing material regarding work methods and procedures.

Technical Writer I

  • Provide technical writing and executive level speech writing support including editing, organizing, formatting, proofreading, and coordinating developed printed multimedia and web based information.
  • Prepare articles, brochures, video scripts and storyboards, web content, news releases, blog and social media posts, fact sheets, and award nomination in support of communication and outreach goals.
  • Research energy issues/topics, review existing documentation, interview subject matter experts, collect and assemble background information.
  • Track all assigned work in an established project tracking system.
Technical Writer II
  • Provide advanced technical writing and executive level speech writing support including editing, organizing, formatting, proofreading, and coordinating developed printed multimedia and web based information.
  • Prepare more extensive articles, brochures, video scripts and storyboards, web content, news releases, blog and social media posts, fact sheets, and award nomination in support of communication and outreach goals.
  • Research more advanced energy issues/topics, review existing documentation, interview subject matter experts, collect and assemble background information.
  • Track all assigned work in an established project tracking system.
Technical Writer III
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on coal, oil, and natural gas technologies, including extraction, processing, refining, and utilization. Stay updated on industry trends, advancements, and regulations related to fossil energy.
  • Content Development: Develop high-quality technical documentation, including feature stories, and short stories, speeches, presentations, and social media focused on fossil energy technologies.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with subject matter experts, engineers, scientists, and other stakeholders to gather information and verify technical details. Work closely with graphic designers, illustrators, and multimedia specialists to enhance content with visuals and interactive elements.
  • Technical Communication: Communicate complex technical information in a clear and accessible manner for various audiences, including industry professionals, policymakers, investors, and the general public. Tailor content to meet the needs and knowledge levels of different readers.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and edit existing documentation to maintain accuracy, relevance, and compliance with industry standards. Conduct thorough quality assurance checks to identify and correct errors, inconsistencies, and technical inaccuracies.
  • Documentation Management: Organize and maintain a repository of technical documents, ensuring version control, accessibility, and security. Develop templates, style guides, and best practices for effective documentation management.

Job Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a relative field is required
  • +3 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong writing and presentation development skills required
  • Strong project management and time management skills
  • Ability to work both individually and in a team environment
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in using various writing and editing tools
  • Experience working with a federal government agency and/or knowledge of government processes (is preferred)
