The Emergency Nurse independently plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care in patient care situations using standards of care, policy and procedure. Provides direct nursing care to patients, assumes teaching and leadership responsibilities. Participates in shared decision making, unit committee and quality improvement activities. Needs minimal supervision. Primary role of the nurse is the care for all types and age groups of emergency and minor care patients.

  • Develop strategies to attain expected outcomes

  • Coordinate care delivery
  • Utilize patient teaching to promote health and safety
  • Evaluate progress toward outcomes
  • Practice ethically
  • Integrate evidence and research finding into practice
  • Contribute to quality nursing practice and shared decision making (SDM)
  • Demonstrate leadership in the professional practice setting
  • Collaborate with patient, family, the inter-professional team, and others in the conduct of nursing practice
  • Utilize appropriate resources to plan and provide nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible
  • Practice in an environmentally safe and healthy manner
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, high volume environment making rapid critical decisions
  • Able to cross-train in all areas of the Emergency Department
  • Accountable and responsible for the care of admitted patients and completion of inpatient orders of patients waiting for admission
  • Maintain continuum of care and knowledgeable of patient tracking system

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as RN in acute care required
  • At least one year of Emergency or one year of pediatric ICU acute experience required
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required
  • ENPC and TNCC desirable
  • Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
  • BSN preferred

Candidates without Emergency Department experience and New Graduates RN will complete Emergency Department fellowship program. New graduate nurses will be considered for program. Required to sign a Fellowship agreement which includes a 2-year employment commitment to remain in Emergency Department in a full-time position after completion of training.
