Job Summary

The Therapist Speech and Language Lead provides support to speech-language pathologists (SLPs)

assigned to every school for prevention, assessment, and remediation services for students who

exhibit difficulties in the areas of language, speech, voice, and fluency.

Reports to: Exceptional Education

Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities: List, in the order of importance or time spent, the essential and position specific duties/tasks performed by the position. This is not an exhaustive list and employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required. Regular and reliable attendance is an expectation of the job.

Essential Duty 1: Supports district SLPs with intervention strategies based upon student performance and best practices in the field of speech pathology.

Essential Duty 2: Supports district SLPs and school based special education teams with the development and implementation of instructionally appropriate IEPs based on students' strengths & needs.

Essential Duty 3: Supports district SLPs through case management on how to administer formal standardized assessments, interpreting and accessing district student data, and understanding and applying TDOE special education assessment guidelines to determine eligibility.

Responsibility 1: Trains and supports district SLPS with all required procedural documentation for students (to include but not limited to assessment reports, therapy data collection, IEPs, re-evaluation documents, progress reporting, and Medicaid documentation).

Responsibility 2: Collaborates/consults with all stakeholders across the district (to include but not limited to general education teachers, exceptional education teachers, psychologists, occupational therapists, school counselors, building administrators, coaches, discipline leads etc.) in the management of speech-language disorders as they relate to literacy, communication skills, and their impact on learning. Provides coaching and training to stakeholders when appropriate.

Responsibility 3: Support district SLPs and/or school level professionals with analyzation and interpretation of information to make recommendations regarding the need and intensity level for speech-language services.

Responsibility 4: Participate in leadership activities to: • plan and implement professional development on topics related to school based speech pathology. • Support professional learning communities/working groups. • Plan and implement faculty meetings with all district level SLPs to disseminate district and/or department information, address group needs, etc.

Meal Deduction - Most Bransford office and district level employee have a meal deduction. They are

Education and Experience Requirements

Education (training/degree): Master's Degree in the field of Communication Sciences and Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology

Licenses, Certifications or

Registrations Required: Tennessee Department of Education Teacher's License (Practitioner/Professional School Services Provider)

Experience: Experience in speech-language pathology and/or exceptional education strongly preferred

Skills Required: Communication & listening skills, analytical skills, effective interpersonal skills, flexibility, and organization
