JOB SUMMARY:
To set the tone for a positive camper experience. Act as a role model for campers to follow; to provide leadership and guidance to your tribe members. Camp counselors live on-site in cabins with campers and guide them through their whole camp stay.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- To live with your group of campers and to help each camper adjust to fellow campers and camp life.
- To arise daily with campers and report to the flag raising
- Guide the individual camper in participation in group and all camp activities.
- Act as host at the dining table; encourage your campers to eat all meals to maintain a balanced diet.
- Interpret safety and health regulations for the camper (safety briefing).
- Supervise the organization of cabin regarding cabin duty assignments and see that these are executed satisfactorily.
- Enforce proper attire, table etiquette, and cleanliness to campers for daily meals; enforce personal hygiene practices.
- Maintain camp discipline with consistency, fairness, cheerfulness, and enthusiasm. • Responsible for orderly conduct in the village during after "lights out" and before reveille
- Responsible for campers' location; report immediately to senior counselor the names of those who you do not know of their location. Take head count at every meal and at bedtime.
- Separate personal recreation for your duties as a counselor.
- Maintain all records as required; participate in staff meeting as designated.
- Responsible for the health, safety, and happiness of each member of your tribe, seeding aid from proper sources when applicable; i.e., unit leader, nurse, program director, waterfront director, camp director.
- Provide leadership, guidance, training, and supervision to those assigned to you.
- Other duties as assigned by the senior counselor.
Education
- High School Graduate
- Must understand the policies and procedures of Camp Kiwanis
- Should have a working knowledge of child development, communications and small group dynamics (democratic leadership)
- Demonstrate the energy and enthusiasm required to be an effective counselor.
- Enjoys living outdoors.
- Must be trained in First Aid and CPR.
ENVIRONMENT & WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal internal office environment with an occasional need to travel to club locations within the Metro Atlanta area. Frequent internal contact with employees throughout the organization are required.
EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION:
Nonexempt employees are entitled, under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), to time and one-half their "regular rate" of pay for each hour they actually work over the applicable FLSA overtime threshold in the applicable FLSA work period.
