As a Full-Time Custodian at the City of Pharr, your key responsibilities will include maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of our facilities. You will ensure pristine building floors through sweeping, mopping, buffing, and vacuuming, while also servicing, cleaning, and stocking restrooms. You'll play a vital role in waste management by gathering and disposing of interior and exterior trash, contributing to a tidy environment. Additionally, you'll conduct minor repairs on heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, and electrical systems, ensuring our facilities run smoothly. Your expertise will also shine through in floor maintenance tasks such as stripping, sealing, finishing, and polishing, as well as steam-cleaning or shampooing carpets, keeping our spaces welcoming for all. Familiarity with the chemical composition and properties of cleaning substances is essential for effective cleaning and maintenance tasks. Successful custodians should demonstrate the ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions, ensuring that protocols are adhered to meticulously. Moreover, candidates should be capable of making minor repairs and adjustments to cleaning equipment, showcasing problem-solving skills in real-time. Physical strength and agility are crucial, as the role involves executing moderate to heavy custodial tasks while maintaining the care and upkeep of our facilities, landscaping, and equipment. A proactive and customer-centric approach will enhance performance in this integral position. Knowledge and skills required for the position are: Knowledge of machines and tools including their designs uses repair and maintenance. Knowledge of the chemical composition structure and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions. Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to cleaning equipment with enough physical strength and agility to perform a variety of moderate heavy custodial tasks in the care and limited maintenance of building, landscaping and equipment.
