Terracon is growing and seeks full-time Archaeologists to join the Archaeology Group based in our Columbus, OH office as part of a newly formed and growth-oriented group to facilitate ongoing archaeological projects in the region as we cultivate opportunities with new and existing clients. Qualified candidates will be part of the team focused in the eastern Midwest but may travel for additional work with Terracon Archaeology Groups in the eastern U.S. and across the country. If you're interested in belonging to a 100% employee-owned organization that allows us to set our course together and benefit when our hard work creates financial success, then Terracon is your kind of company Come explore with us Essential Roles and Responsibilities: Responsible for assisting with archaeological fieldwork such as survey, excavation, artifact collection, and basic documentation including ability to draw a site map Conduct archaeological surveys or excavations using common archaeological tools and methods under the supervision of a Crew Chief or higher Identify artifacts and stratigraphy, recording information on standardized forms Assist senior staff with other tasks as needed Excavation of standard shovel tests or test units Demonstrate knowledge of archaeological survey and excavation Perform quality control on field documents daily Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects; participate in pre-task planning; report any safety issues or concerns to management Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects Requirements: Ability to recognize Pre-Contact and Historic artifacts and cultural features Familiarity or knowledge of handheld GPS systems Ability to adequately document field work on standard field forms Availability to travel on average 30% monthly within the Eastern Midwest division; availability also to travel on rotations of up to 10 consecutive work-days within the eastern operating group Flexibility to work various schedules depending on client needs Ability to work and communicate with others in various environmental settings Possess strong written and verbal communication skills Capable of multi-tasking within flexible/fluid schedules and project needs Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting and walking on uneven surfaces carrying at least 20 lbs. of equipment, and ability to work in extreme (hot/cold) weather conditions Eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship Ability to pass drug screening Possess a valid U.S. driver's license with acceptable violation history Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Anthropology or a related field Six months of professional archaeological experience in one or more of the following states: OH Professional experience working on solar farms, commercial developments, and communications tower projects Phase I, II, and/or III level experience About Terracon Terracon is a 100 percent employee-owned multidiscipline consulting firm comprised of more than 6,000 curious minds focused on solving engineering and technical challenges from more than 175 locations nationwide.
