Occ Summary
Assist the physical therapist in the provision o f physical therapy,providing intervention under the supervision of a phy sical therapist.The physical therapist assistant may modify an intervent ion only inaccordance with changesin patient/client status and within t he scopeof the plan of care that has been established by the physical th erapist.
Work Performed
Levels I, II and IIIDemonstr ate & articulate sound clinicalreasoning in treatment planning, implemen tation and monitoring ofpatient progress.Recognize when standard patient protocols ortreatment plans need modification to meet individual patien t needs &reports to therapist.Understand the role of therapy in theconte xt of the patient's age, total needs perspective andenvironmentPerform a ge appropriate competency skills withrespect to individual patient's pro blems.Consistently report tophysical therapist, patient progress/status to allow for updated ofgoals and modifications by physical therapist oftreatmentprogramConsistently meet patient care productivity standard for position.Work cooperatively with peers to contribute to theoverall produ ctivity of the team.Utilize support personnel(aides, senior aides, ) whe n appropriate and available.Activelysupport and participate in cross cov erage efforts in thedivision.Assist physical therapist's assessment of t he learningneeds and capabilities of patients and caregivers with regard to age,level of understanding & emotional status..Assist physicaltherapist in utilizing appropriate methods and materials for effectivelearning , monitoring response to education, and adapting programappropriately.En sure that patient/family understands when andhow to receive further trea tment.Patient care documentation istimely, legible, and efficient.Notes are concise, pertinent andmeet departmental documentation standards.Oral reporting isclear, concise, relevant, and timely.Perform all required d atacollection for the department accurately and within expected timefram e.Peer review standards are consistently met.
Knowledge, Ski lls and Abilities
Levels I and IIThe physical therapist assistan t may performphysical therapy procedures and related tasks that have bee n selectedand delegated by the supervising physical therapist.Ability to push-pull, lift-carry, and transfer patients.Level III Also hasdemonstra ted leadership/specialization at the clinical level.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Levels I, II and III Associate's degree in physical therapist assistant.
Experience
Level I Level II None beyond required education. Minimum of 36 months of clinical practice experience.Required level of achievement for the Level I after 36 months of employment Level III Minimum five years experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant with 2 years at DUHS.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Levels I, II and III Current Physical Therapist Assistant license in North Carolina.
