Description

A Service Assembly Technician develops and applies a wide range of packaging machinery building skills and demonstrates good organizational skills. The general skill categories include Lubrication Systems Assembly, Machine Guard Assembly, Pneumatics System Assembly, Minor Controls Programming, Electrical and Machine Assembly. In addition, this position will work with Replacement Parts Representatives, Technical Services H Project Application Engineers, Assembly Leads and Supervisors to organize, pre-assemble and pack customer orders to meet pre-defined schedules.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
  1. Steward our mission (to enrich lives by providing differentiated packaging automation and services) and values (unwavering integrity, servant's heart, ownership spirit and continuous innovation and improvement).
  2. Be skilled in the use of appropriate hand tools, shop equipment, testing and measuring devices.
  3. Understand the proper department procedures for ordering parts and materials.
  4. Read and assemble to applicable prints, documentation and Douglas Machine standards.
  5. Sketch parts and/or update prints as required.
  6. May, with the assistance of engineering, modify, fabricate and/or redesign parts as needed.
  7. Monitor and maintain all associated schedules between rebuild and parts sales.
  8. Report and resolve job related problems.
  9. Understand machine concepts and the theory of machine operation, through the use of timing charts, drawings and theories of operation.
  10. Assist with employee training.
  11. Travel as needed (occasional).
  12. Test and troubleshoot all sub-assemblies where applicable.
  13. Download PLC or Servo programs and test as applicable.
  14. Ensure all components shipped have been properly prepared for use, such as lubrication or set-up.
  15. Ensure all changes are properly documented through normal department procedures.
  16. Complete CAR's (Corrective Action Reports) and ECR's (Engineering Change Requests) as required.
  17. Check shipments to ensure all parts and assemblies are included in the crate.
  18. Pack crates securely and provide the necessary information to shipping in a timely manner to ensure on time shipments.
  19. Attend meetings to provide input on project status.
  20. Schedule and facilitate final exit meeting on all shipments (H-projects).
  21. Consistently show consideration and respect to customers and all employees.
  22. Maintain an orderly and clean work environment including carts, shop equipment, and surrounding areas to 5S standards.
  23. Complete all inventory transactions to ensure an accurate inventory.
  24. Supply crate sizes to the parts handler/expediter to ensure timely delivery of crates.
  25. Effectively communicate with internal and external contacts.
  26. Responsible for complying with all safety policies and procedures.
  27. Other duties will be assigned as needed.
Lubrication System Assembly
  1. Install lubrication system components and chain oilier systems on machine sections according to Douglas Machine Standards and customer specifications.
  2. Check and test these systems and verify proper performance where applicable.
  3. Ensure that all hardware such as fitting and connectors that cannot be mounted during the pre-assembly are identified and shipped with each sub-assembly.
Machine Guard System Assembly
  1. Capable of, with the aid of a 35R drawing, making minor modifications to the existing sheet metal and polycarbonate components, fastening hardware and required fasteners to fabricate machine perimeter guard packages according to Douglas Machine Standards and customer specifications.
Pneumatics Assembly
  1. Capable of with the aid of a pneumatic drawing, installing pneumatic components and run the appropriate air supply lines per the specifications of the Douglas Machine pneumatic standards manual and customer specifications.
  2. Ensure that all hardware such as fittings and connectors that cannot be mounted during the pre-assembly are identified and shipped with each sub-assembly.
Mechanical Assembly
  1. Fit and assemble mechanical and electrical components per the machine assembly print and Douglas Machine Assembly Standards Manual.
  2. Part conformance and tolerance shall be verified to assure a smooth unrestricted operation.
  3. Completed machine sections are set up and test run as applicable.
  4. Ensure that all hardware such as fittings and connectors that cannot be mounted during the pre-assembly are identified and shipped with each sub-assembly.
Organizational/Coordination
  1. Organize and coordinate the order crating.
  2. Ensure all required parts and assemblies are in the crate prior to shipping.
  3. Participate in design reviews to update the team on assembly status.
  4. Prepare the assemblies/parts for shipment and ship the crate.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of a two-year technical degree in a related field or high school diploma/GED and four years of demonstrated work experience in a related field. Prefer experience within the packaging machinery industry.
