Qualifications:
  1. Valid state RN or LPN license.
  2. One year experience in child health or public health
  3. Acquire competencies necessary for beginning practice in school nursing (LPN)
  4. The Missouri Nursing Practice Act states that licenses practical nurses (LPN) must function under the supervision of a Licensed registered nurse (RN) or a physician.
  5. Assume responsibility as appropriately delegated by an R.N. in areas of assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management, and/or referral activities.
  6. Serves as a direct link between physicians, families, and community agencies to assure access and continuity of health care of students, parents, staff, and others concerning health-related issues.
  7. Upholds professional standards, the state Nurse Practice Act, and other state and local statutes and regulations applicable to school nursing practice.
  8. Adheres to district policies and administration guidelines.
  9. Basic Life Support Certified.
General Summary: This position provides health care services, administers medicine and counsels students on health care, hygiene, and other environmental health issues in accordance with State and District policies and procedures.

Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Duties that can be appropriately delegated by RN or a physician. This allows for the LPN to perform tasks unsupervised, for which this individual has received appropriate training.
  2. Nursing management of common acute and chronic physical conditions and injuries of childhood and adolescence, abuse and neglect, adolescence pregnancy, substance abuse, poverty, racism and the effects on child development and health, and other environmental health issues.
  3. Evaluates one's own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statutes, regulations and policies
  4. Acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency in school nursing practices.
  5. Interact with and contributes to the professional development of peers and school personnel as colleagues.
  6. Makes decisions and actions on behalf of clients that are determined in an ethical manner.
  7. Collaborates with the student, family school staff, community and other providers in providing student care.
  8. Evaluates factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost when planning and delivering care.
  9. Utilizes effective written, verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
  10. Provides the appropriate accessibility, recording and utilization of confidential information related to school health and health related services.
  11. Maintains and/or supervises the accurate documentation and maintenance of information, records and reports.
  12. Manages site based health services through assessment, evaluation and care of students and staff.
