Case Nurse/Nurse Trainer

The Nurse is responsible for the development, monitoring and evaluation of health related services, policies, procedures, staff In-service training and records which comply with federal, state, agency and service regulations to ensure the health and safety of participants. In addition, they are the primary educator and trainer for new and current non-medical staff.
DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and/or monitor the maintenance of all necessary records, reports and participant files as related to health needs and services and medications to endure compliance with Board of Health (BPH), Medicaid and Medicaid Waiver regulations for supervised group living and supported living
- Participate in annual Case Conferences and/or staffing, as part of the interdisciplinary team
- Monitor the development and implementation of health related Individual Prescriptive Plan (IPP) goals, objectives and instructional activities established the annual case conference
- Develop and execute training required for all staff with a focus on new hires which include but are not limited to: universal precautions; personal care; confidentiality of an individual's information; medication administration and medication side effects; CPR, First Aid; OSHA; and competency in medication administration documentation.
- Proctor competency testing for all required medical trainings
- Participate in appropriate departmental, agency or other organizational meetings, as needed
- Assist in coordinating participant appointments with the physician
- Conduct visits within each department to ensure appropriate medication and health services are provided by direct care staff
- Complete documentation for accident/incident reports for clients
- Complete medication change section on Human Rights Committee reports after psychiatrist appointments or other times of medication change
- Respond to medical emergencies as needed
- Responsible for on call rotation for Residential Services
- Responsible for returning calls from the pager for emergency or urgent medical situations
- Other duties as requested by the director(s).
- Must be able to lift or move up to 75 pounds
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking
REQUIRED SKILLS/ ABILITIES
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Employee must be able to provide immediate and effective feedback to employees concerning behavior and performance
- Detail oriented
- Must possess a valid Registered Nurse License issued by the Indiana Health Professions Bureau (proof of valid license must accompany application)
- Minimum of two years' experience in nursing related position
- Preferred certified CPR/AED & First Aid instructor, or enrolled and completed certification within first 4 months of hire date
- Experience with the developmentally disabled population preferred.
