Richmond, United States Virginia Jobs Full time
Mission or Goal of Unit: The VCU Division of Surgical Oncology is dedicated to providing the Mid-Atlantic region with the most advanced, patient-oriented, cost-effective, and safe surgical oncology services. Our mission is to create an environment of excellence in clinical care, research and education/training that fosters the development of the region's future surgical oncology specialists. We are committed to enhancing diversity among our faculty, staff, and students.

As part of Massey, one of only two NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in Virginia, VCU Health Surgical Oncology team members treat complex benign and malignant diseases with a patient-centered, multidisciplinary approach. Our comprehensive designation reflects our scientific leadership, depth and breadth of research, effective community outreach, and cancer research training and education.

Our board-certified surgeons have completed specialty training in cancer surgery and are sub-specialized in different cancer types to further their expertise and technical skills. Special areas of expertise include gastrointestinal cancers, breast cancer, melanoma, endocrine surgery, and sarcoma.

In addition to our surgeons, the Surgical Oncology division has a dedicated team of nurse navigators, patient coordinators, clinical nurses, and nurse practitioners to help navigate patients' treatment paths. We have multiple clinic locations with teams of multidisciplinary providers and access to innovative research protocols to help improve patient outcomes and provide support to our patients from diagnosis to treatment to post-treatment. Some of the colleagues we partner with are specialists in the fields of Radiation Oncology, Hematology/Oncology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Genetics, and many others. Our team approach to care helps us guide patients through the surgical decision-making process more efficiently to provide innovative, collaborative, and advanced surgical care.

Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Surgery at VCU/VCU Health System is recruiting for an open rank, early- to mid-career, term faculty position in the Division of Surgical Oncology. The faculty member will support the division's expanding efforts to provide excellent oncology surgical support to many of our current regional outreach programs, including Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center. Clinical and research areas of particular interest should be in the treatment of benign and malignant hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and gastrointestinal, soft tissue and/ or endocrine diseases. Finally, the faculty member will support the division's commitment to teaching surgery residents, surgical oncology fellows as well as VCU medical students.

Position Responsibilities:

A record of publication in refereed journals or presentations at national meetings is expected. The faculty member is expected to develop interdisciplinary collaborations within VCU's Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology to achieve these goals.

Service
The faculty member will serve on university, health system, and departmental committees as requested by leadership. They will assist with the recruitment, training, and placement of residents and fellows among the varied specialties outlines above.

Clinical
Clinical responsibility will be in the care of the surgical oncology patients on the MCV campus of VCU, as well as community outreach satellite locations.
