JOB SUMMARY
The Bilingual Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting on intake process, compile, process, and maintain medical records in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the health services department. Medical Assistant will monitor Unaccompanied Children (UC) health through assessing their records, symptoms, and reactions to treatment and care. They often have extensive interaction with the UC. The Medical Assistant assist on the delivery of medical care with the emphasis on disease prevention and health maintenance while ensuring compliance with State licensing, Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), and all policies and procedures implemented by CFRC.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Coordinate medical, dental, and mental health services to meet the needs of the children and ensure that all new arrivals receive their initial medical assessments within 48 hours as required by ORR.
  • Coordinate the daily administrative activities, including scheduling and client medical record maintenance. Prepare client report transcription from physician record.
  • Responsible for diagnostic filing, electronic, scans and hard copy documentation to the current chart, including but not limited to results, physician appointments and follow ups.
  • Assist the medical providers’ staff with examination procedures when needed, such as patient screening /triage.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for clinical examinations and assisting practitioners with medical procedures and other patient care.
  • Coordinate youths’ vaccination and maintain vaccination records.
  • Provide primary and emergency care for injuries and illnesses. Immediate attention to service request from clients. Assess and evaluate patients' needs for, and responses to, care rendered.
  • Administration of over the counter and prescription medications as ordered.
  • Monitor and report on the progress and symptoms of clients in isolation.
  • Maintain inventory of medicines in stock, expiration dates and and availability.
  • Implement physicians’ orders and document treatment as directed by physicians and required by company policy and local/state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
  • Ensure all infection control, OSHA, CDC, and State licensing guidelines are followed and maintained in all medical departments.
  • Assist on creating strategies and action plans for the prevention of infectious disease outbreaks. Assist on investigating possible outbreaks and coordinates proper resources in response into any confirmed outbreak.
  • Assist with reporting requirements under the program for the Health Department.
  • Follow recommendations given by the Public Health Departments, CDC, and ORR.
  • Assist on ensuring billing and TARs are processed in a timely manner to cover doctor appointments as needed.
  • Maintain medical supplies and prescribed medications, follows standing orders, State licensing, and CFRC policies and procedures for providing over the counter medications to minors, prepares youth for examinations, and any other clinical tasks as needed
  • Educate and counsel youth concerning their medical status, disease, treatment, and prevention of disease and other health related topics.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of on-the-job training for medical staff as needed.
  • Attend organizational required trainings.
  • Attend departmental and program meetings to ensure that up-to-date information is received and/or provided and to ensure that changes to policy or practice are implemented and adhered to.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and hazard-free work area.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
• Associate degree in a relevant field. At least 1 year of experience in a similar role.
• Certified Medical Assistant or relevant Licensure according to State requirements with 1 year of experience in an outpatient, assisted living, hospital, or public health/community setting is preferred.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Working Conditions/Physical Effort

Work is performed mostly in an office setting. Some overnight travel, public speaking, evening and weekend work are the requirements of the position. Regular computer work is also required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; finger, handle, or feel objects, or controls; reach; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Are exposed to diseases or infections on a daily basis. Always wear masks or rubber gloves to protect themselves and their patients from disease. Usually work indoors. Work very near patients and doctors. They come into physical contact with patients throughout the day. Usually wear a uniform or lab jacket. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
