Scope of Role
The Recreation Assistant is responsible for providing great customer service, exhibiting the values of the City of Albemarle, and providing day-to-day group recreation programming, direct supervision and management of programs for youth, adults, and seniors, and assistance at special events.
Essential Duties
- Implement, facilitate, and supervise a wide range of youth and adult athletic recreation programs.
- Basic knowledge of rules and guidelines of many youth and adult athletic/sporting activities.
- Ability to deescalate and mediate potential conflicts between teams, players, and spectators.
- Ability to make decisions and problem solve.
- Facilitate both indoor and outdoor activities.
- Assist with set-up and break-down of activities and cleaning of program area.
- Maintain positive and appropriate relations with program participants.
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Be enthusiastic and make programs fun and safe.
- Comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform basic skills, i.e. email, MS Word, MS Excel, RecDesk online registration system.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma - course work or experience in after school programs, summer camp, recreation, child development, event management, or any related course work
- Prior experience working with recreation programming for youth, adults, and/or seniors
- Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
- CPR/First Aid Certification
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 20 pounds amount of force frequently; and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, operate a computer terminal, utilize measuring devices, operate a motor vehicle, and inspect work of others.
