Job Summary

The Ultrasound Technologist uses specialized ultrasound equipment, takes images of the appropriate areas of the anatomy using scanning technique that results in high quality diagnostic images as requested by the physician. The Ultrasound Technologist follows departmental protocol as it relates to documentation, comparison, consent, and other information needed for interpretation and appropriate patient care.

Job Responsibilities

  • Sets up and adjusts ultrasound equipment for proper scans.
  • Independently perform scans on patients according to protocols established by department leadership and take call, per the department schedule for evening, night and weekend coverage.
  • Uses expertise to explain procedures to patients, produce quality scans, process films and review films with medical staff.
  • Reviews and evaluates ultrasound films for technical quality.
  • Performs quality assurance tests and studies related to ultrasound as directed and provides input into CQI processes.
  • Maintains ultrasound rooms in a clean, safe, orderly, and well-stocked condition.
  • Accurately documents per established organization information management procedures.
  • Performs duties of a Radiologic Technologist as licensed, needed and required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
  • Minimum: Graduate of an American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers Sanctioned School of Ultrasound or Sonography certification and graduation of an Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) approved school of Radiology Technology .
  • Preferred: Multiple modality certification
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum: Ultrasound and or Radiology - 6 months
License/Certification Requirements
  • Basic Life Safety (American Heart Association)
  • American Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Abdomen or Obstetrics/gynecologic or certified
