Summary
Provide students, parents, administrators, and other teaching staff with information on career and or educational opportunities; administer and interpret career assessment tools; and assist students in developing educational and occupational goals and plans.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serves as ready resource to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity
  • Assist teachers in developing sensitivity to the particular needs of individual students and developing strategies to meet these needs
  • Assist classroom teachers in implementing aspects of the CCS curriculum that include guidance related issues. For example, understanding self and others, coping strategies, peer relationships, effective social skills, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, study skills, career awareness, substance education and multicultural awareness
  • Advise students and families on academic planning for course work at CCS
  • Advise students and families on after high-school career and academic choices.
  • When appropriate, implements and oversees mediation, conflict resolution and anger management techniques to assist the principal in the administration of the CCS Student Code of Conduct.
  • Make appropriate referrals for special services for students and families within the school and community.
  • Shares responsibility for professional, cooperative staff relations and activities important to the operation of school, including demonstrating flexibility when working with colleagues
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents
  • Enforces the CCS Student Code of Conduct, the CCS Uniform Code, and the CCS Computer Usage Code
  • Promotes good citizenship through actions as a role model
  • Conducts himself or herself according to professional, ethical principles that reflect favorably upon the individual and the school
  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality pertaining to school and students' information, progress, and records
  • Assumes other responsibilities assigned by supervisor and/or school administrator
  • Abides by the CCS Employee Manual, CCS policies and procedures, and all current PA Public School expectations

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or related field and Elementary School Counselor Certification. If certification is from a different state, PA certification must be obtained within a determined timeframe.
  • Experience and demonstrated competency as a school counselor
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations
  • Required Clearances include Criminal Background Clearance (Act 34), Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151), and FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114), all dated within one year of receipt
  • Meets criteria for employment in a PA Public School
