Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Radiology Supervisor, performs a variety of MRI procedures and departmental support functions.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Performs MRI examinations of the brain, body, spine and extremities on patients of all ages effectively adjusting scanning parameters for different patient body habitus. Selects and modifies technical factors to enhance images; uses flare and SAT imaging techniques. Determines appropriate equipment for scanning up to but not limited to body coils.
  • Identifies gross pathology in the human body and adjusts T1 and T2 scanning parameters to provide pertinent information for interpretation. Adjusts parameters of equipment to minimize risk factors to self and patient.
  • Effectively performs Diffusion studies, MR Angiograms, reformats and MIP imaging. Performs specialized exams i.e. MRA runoffs and post arthrogram work ups.
  • Effectively uses magnetic resonance and adjusts parameters to minimize exposure to patient and self. Follows established protocols and effectively uses scanning techniques to include, window and contrast levels, scanning time sequences, scanning delays, scanning thickness, FOV, scout images, reformatting, image reconstruct and 3-D image reconstruct. Photographs, archives and retrieves images.
  • Is certified to start and remove IV lines for contrast studies per established departmental policy and procedure. Identifies and responds to IV contrast reactions up to and including calling emergency personnel. Proficient in the use of an IV Contrast Power Injector.
  • Identifies each patient, reviews each patients requisition and previous studies for consistency (examination ordered/clinical diagnosis), and records pertinent data on MRI requisition at all times. Responsible for performing comprehensive screening of patients and other individuals before allowing them to enter the MR system room.
  • Effectively explains, knows, and informs anyone entering the MR system room the danger associated with implants and devices, in addition to pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), and loose objects.
  • Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, presents completed examination to radiologist, and communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure.
  • Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images and ensures proper film identification on all images.
  • Maintains daily patient MRI log documenting correctly and accurately patient information to ensure the quality of patient care. Patients full name. Patients member number. Patients physician. Type and amount of contrast used. Examination performed.
  • Demonstrates ability to organize patient care and set priorities by providing critical care first and by implementing the physicians orders.
  • Performs proper computer skills and shows working knowledge of patient orders, status changes, patient charges and profiles.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Monday-Friday, rotating weekend

Basic Qualifications:
Experience
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience as a MRI technologist or ARRT advanced certification registry eligible with two (2) years recent experience as a Radiologic technologist with ARRT required.
  • Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited radiology technology program OR MRI Accredited Certificate Program required.
  • High School Diploma OR General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists Certificate OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Magnetic Resonance Imaging within 12 months of hire
  • Basic Life Support
  • Radiologic Technologist Certification
Additional Requirements:
  • Required to stand, push, pull and lift patients.
  • Must be able to adjust routine to accommodate patient or department without affecting departmental flow.
  • May be required to left objects heavier than fifty (50) pounds, perform difficult manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination skills, walk and stand for prolonged periods, see objects closely and hear normal sounds with some background noises.
  • Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption and attend to tasks for 20 to 45 minutes at a time.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of customer focused service requirements of the organization.
  • Ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively with members and coworkers.
  • Proficiency in applicable computer software.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
  • Current in ARRT OR ARMRIT CEU requirements required.
  • Venipuncture competency check off required within three (3) months of hire.
