Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

The CRNA administers general or regional anesthetics to patients to either relieve pain or make patients unconscious for surgical procedures. Administration of anesthesia may be intravenous, inhalation, or spinal routes, epidural, regional. During the administration of anesthesia, the CRNA closely monitors the patient’s response by monitoring temperature, pulse, heart rate, and breathing rate/oxygen saturation. The CRNA will closely monitor the patients during surgery and post-surgery until the patients have recovered from the anesthesia and are stable. Prior to procedures that require anesthesia, the CRNA meets with the patient and family members to obtain pertinent information, explain the process, and answer any questions.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Graduate of a school of anesthesia accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
  • Valid licensure by the State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation as a registered nurse in good standing.
  • Valid licensure by the State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation as an Advanced Practice Nurse in good standing.
  • Current Board Certification by American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
  • Current ACLS and PALS course completion required within one year of hire.
  • May be required to work any day of the week including holidays and weekends.
