Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is actively seeking a Construction Engineer to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team support various transportation projects supporting our CEI pursuits in Virginia.
Summary
As Construction Engineer, you will be responsible for acting as Project's senior representative for assigned projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead and guide Construction Managers, Inspectors, and other project staff in administering construction and maintenance contracts
- Leads and holds key project related meetings
- Involved in planning and executing project engineering decisions, including change orders or supplemental agreements
- Reviews financial processes, transactions, and documentation
- Ensure construction contract requirements are being met by contractor and consultants
- Oversees project budget and schedule, project management and documentation, all project submittals and all formal project correspondence, project quality, and communication
- It is important to note that the position description serves as a summary, and additional related duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate by the manager.
The Construction Engineer is expected to have experience in the practice of highway construction engineering. The Engineer is expected to have working knowledge of:
- Roadway, structure, traffic engineering, construction methods, procedures, practices, plans, specifications, and contracts
- VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, Road and Bridge Standards, Construction Manual, and Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices
- Engineering design for roadways, structures, and drainage as related to highway design and construction
- Contract development and project management processes
- Schedules, claims avoidance, claims mitigation, cost estimating and reporting
- Materials used and performance, environmental, legal, and safety responsibilities related to construction of transportation facilities
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with various senior stakeholders/constituents
- Effective task and time management
- Functional computer usage including familiarity with Microsoft office suite software and all construction management software systems used by the project team.
- Apply engineering planning and principles to a variety of projects and interpret roadway and bridge plans, specifications, and contracts
- Conduct construction related submittal reviews
- Prepare technical, financial, administrative, and explanatory correspondence
- Apply engineering planning and project scheduling principles to a variety of projects
- Conduct constructability and bid ability reviews, and cost and schedule analysis
- Supervise and manage employee work groups
- HS diploma or equivalent required.
- Associates or BS Degree in Civil Engineering preferred.
- VA PE Required
- 5-20+ years of experience
- Strong written and communication skills required.
- Current driver's license with safe 3-year driving record is required.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
This position requires minimal lifting of up to 50 pounds sometimes on a frequent basis. The employee must be able to travel and tour work sites under adverse environmental conditions not limited to loud noise levels, high dust and dirt, and extreme temperature. The employee must be able to visually examine construction materials and finished structures and work in various types of weather and field conditions, including heights, uneven terrain, highway traffic, hazards of highway construction sites and heavy equipment.
Expected Hours of Work
This position is full-time (40 hours per week). Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing one unpaid hour for lunch each day. While overtime is generally not anticipated, occasional projects or deadlines may necessitate additional hours, compensated according to company policy. Flexible schedules may be available with prior approval from the immediate supervisor. Work schedules may vary based on project demands.
