POSITION SUMMARY & OBJECTIVES:

Full time clinical staff position in the Health Center at Glenwood Academy, with duties and responsibilities that include but are not limited to the following:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Direct the planning and administration of Health Services to the students at Glenwood Academy.
  • Medication management in both the Health Center and campus cottages, including supervising the administration of medication and health outcomes, by House Parents at Glenwood Academy.
  • Provide crisis management as needed.
  • Coordinate professional development/training for communicable disease regulations and protocols.
  • Monitor, maintain compliance and report to all necessary governmental bodies all documents and services required for our students’ health and safety.
  •  Provide first aid care and medically prescribed treatments to students, per doctor orders.
  • Provide follow up health evaluations on students as required.
  • Maintain, evaluate and interpret cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students.
  • Collaborate with local resources for use in the school health setting, ie. Robert Crown Center, Proctor and Gamble School Health Programs.
  • Monitor all medication compliance by conducting medication checks weekly according to licensing protocol. Report and document any issues.
  • Review, monitor and teach to all doctor’s orders for medication, treatment, and therapy.
  • Use SNAP Health Center health documentation to provide all medication, visit and treatment documentation. Charting is completed by the end of each shift.
  • Coordinate and present annual House Parent trainings to cover medication administration documentation, physician orders, policy enforcement of how to give medication, when to send a student home, what to look for after an ER visit, etc.
  • Provide annual training for all staff on Bloodborne Pathogens. 
  • Coordinate and establish the training and certification of First Aid/CPR for campus employees.
  • Ensure that all new admission health documentation is up to date and within legal mandate of the State of IL: immunizations, TB test, visions and dental exams, physician orders for any medications and or treatments.
  • Provide off campus or field trip inhalers, Epi Pens or scheduled medications to students who have physician orders.
  • Provide on-call assistance to staff in the event of an emergency or need for consultation regarding a student’s health status or medication management.
  • Serve as a resource on Campus for health issues; and conduct school in-services as needed.
  • Follow all HIPPA Guidelines to ensure student/parent/guardian confidentiality.
  • Order and monitor inventory for the Health Center and cottage medical supplies, and re-supply throughout the year as needed. Coordinate buying within the established Health Center budget; all purchase orders are approved by RN’s supervisor.
  • Maintain communication with parent/guardians/staff regarding student health, emergencies, campus medical issues or communicable disease outbreak.
  • Coordinate the annual mobile dentist visits to Glenwood Academy and assist with any follow up as needed, post dental exam and recommendations for student treatment.
  • Prepare students to attend Summer Camp by collecting proper medical documentation for each student. Organize medication administration forms. 
  • Collect/sort/label all medications on day campers leave; determine all meds coordinate with proper physician orders on file.
  • Participation in Glenwood Academy’s various staff meetings, in-service workshops, and in quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain all applicable licensure and certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (preferred)

•    Attend designated Glenwood Academy events, programs and meetings.

•    Provide support during school events, programs and meetings for Glenwood Academy.

•    Other Duties as Assigned

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified School Nurse (preferred)
  • IDPH Certification in Vision & Hearing Screening (preferred)
  • 3-5 years’ experience with Child/Adolescent Nursing (preferred)
  • RN (licensed in IL)
  • CPR Healthcare provider certified
  • SNAP Health Center Software experience
  • Knowledge of word processing and basic computer functions; intermediate to advanced level of computer skills required
  • Knowledge of childhood trauma and prior experience working in settings with youth and families that have been exposed to trauma or experience traumatic stress preferred.
  • Knowledge of child and youth development, adolescent issues, positive youth development/strengths preferred
  • Ability to self-structure and execute responsibilities efficiently
  • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing
    • Ability to effectively communicate a positive message
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • No history of child abuse or neglect
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen
