Job Summary

An Educational Technology Consultant provides support and training for Purdue's enterprise level instructional technology to faculty and staff at the highest level of expertise. Consultants offer support and training through responses in our client incident management system; through small group, or one-on-one, consultations; and through help sessions and technical workshops. Educational Technology Consultants develop and maintain self-service documentation and workshop materials for supported instructional technology. The pay range for this role will be between $55,000 and $65,000 based on qualifications and hiring manager discretion.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Consult with faculty to solve problems or issues they encounter using Purdue's centrally supported instructional technology tools. Serve as the highest level of problem escalation for teaching and learning tools. Work with vendors to resolve complex issues. Provide product enhancement recommendations to campus support partners and vendors. Participate in the testing of all product releases or bug fixes prior to installation into production. Communicate to faculty, staff, and students when these enhancements, improvements, or fixes have been installed.
  • Prepare documentation for the team's suite of centrally supported instructional technologies. The content may be in written, video, wiki, or web format. These are typically step by step written tutorials, a set of answers to frequently asked questions, a self-paced course within the LMS, or documentation meant to accompany a workshop on a specific aspect of a tool.
  • Deliver quality workshops related to our centrally supported instructional technology in multiple modalities in response to university needs. Deliver standard material in regularly scheduled public offerings and develop custom material for private offerings. Continually explore alternate means of delivering this content to faculty, staff, and students. Create university communities of best practice via user groups, brown-bag sessions, new faculty/GTA orientations, and faculty panels
  • Advocate for universal design and accessibility in the instructional technology tools we support and in instructional content; both in what we produce and what we help faculty produce. Universal design is taking advantage of technology to provide a media-rich experience, while at the same time making sure that accessibility software (screen readers, interactive captions, etc.) can deliver the same content in a way a that is useable for all.
Required:
BA/BS in Instructional Technology, Education, Computer Technology, or related field and 2 years of experience working in an instructional technology, technology, education, or corporate training environment conveying concepts and ideas via one-to-many (workshops) or one-to-few (meetings for deliberation, discussion, and decision) delivery modes and experience using instructional tools required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. This is a hybrid role. The selected candidate can expect to work remotely most of the time and work on-site in West Lafayette and/or Indianapolis as needed.
