Job Description

Position Summary:

The Phlebotomist is responsible work diligently, independently and as a team member to meet the department goals, and achieve improved benchmarks. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for driving to appointments for specimen collection, retinal eye camera usage, specimen drop off at local labs, plan daily area routes for member outreaches and may contact members to schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Organized and detailed mobile phlebotomist will safely drive their personal vehicle to member facilities to collect specimens from patients and deliver them timely to a local lab for processing.
  • Follow established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples, including following all protocols, practices and appropriate caution when handling specimens in compliance with ACULABS’ “Blood borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan”.
  • Properly and accurately identify patients prior to sample collection, ensure that all specimens are properly labeled, in the proper container and accompanied by a completed requisitions, including patient billing information prior to transporting.
  • Maintaining compliance with HIPAA and ensuring proper PHI handling.
  • Plan, and organize draw schedules to ensure most efficient use of time, and in accordance with department needs. Contact members to schedule in home appointments, completing necessary follow ups and appointment confirmations.
  • Retinal Camera use, completing a picture of patient’s retina with retinal camera (will provide training)
  • Maintain all equipment in good working order and report issues immediately to supervisor. Maintain accurate lab supplies inventory, and notify supervisor timely when running low.
  • Strong communication skills, must be available via company issued mobile devices and reply/answer promptly.
  • Strive to meet personal, department, and organizational goals and targets.
  • Maintain spreadsheets, complete timesheets, and expense reports in a neat, timely and accurate manner.
  • All other duties as directed by management.


The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $24 - $27 per hour; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, licensure, skills, and experience.

The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.

Requirements

Education and / or Experience:
  • Must have experience with laboratory specimen collections and blood draws
  • Must have 1-2 Years of Phlebotomy experience
  • Must have an active Phlebotomist Technician License
  • Must be bilingual (Spanish and English)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, a vehicle, active car insurance and car registration.
  • Must be willing to travel-100% of the time

  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Proficient in phlebotomy procedures, techniques, including venipuncture, tourniquet application/removal and decontamination of the puncture site.
  • Must be able to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to obtain blood specimens from patients under a variety of patient conditions.
  • Proficient in written/verbal skills in the English and Spanish.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients, patients, public and all staff members, ability to take directions and conduct self in a professional manner.
  • Practices excellent communication and interaction skills specific to the population served, including the geriatric communities. Treats patients with respect, dignity, and discretion
