Job Description

The AIMS (Automated Information Mapping System) GIS team within the Department of Technology and Innovation at Johnson County, KS seeks a student, recent graduate, or geographically inclined individual interested in gaining experience working as a paid GIS Intern/Temporary position for the summer of 2024.

First review of applications will be May 22, 2024. Starting wage will be $16-$20/hr depending on education and experience.

Primary duties will include working with data related to various department's needs in the county, as well as external customers, including analysis, mining, editing and automation. Process improvements related to migration from ArcMap to ArcPro, as well as migration of python code from 2.x to 3.x. Performing Mapper of the Day duties to assist mapping needs of the public and as well as perform various GIS related tasks. Potential work-related task related to ArcGIS Online/Portal and Tableau.

Job Requirements

Preference will be given to candidates that are familiar with basic GIS principles and ESRI GIS software (version 10.x of ArcMap, ArcCatalog, as well as ArcPro and ArcGIS Online); familiarity utilizing Python 3.x is preferred; candidate should be able to work independently; a self-starter; and a quick learner.

The position will be located at 111 S Cherry St in Olathe, Kansas. Preferred schedule will be 6 to 8 hours a day ~3 days a week but hours could vary as needed.

Candidate must be able to successfully complete background screenings and reference checks.

Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:
All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments/agencies in a declared emergency situation.
