Description

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is the member of the interdisciplinary team (IDT) with primary responsibility for assessing, developing, and implementing communication and swallowing plans for each individual resident on assigned caseload. This information is reported to the other members of the IDT as appropriate. The SLP is responsible for developing and providing training for direct support professionals and nursing staff to enhance the communication and swallowing skills of each resident.

Requirements

Education/Training/Experience:
  • Must have a Master's Degree in Speech Pathology.
  • Must be licensed or eligible for license as a Speech Pathologist by the VA State Board of Health.
  • Must be eligible for a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology granted by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
  • Previous experience working with augmentative and alternative communication systems preferred.
Essential Functions include:
  • Use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects up to 35 pounds independently
  • ability to see details of objects that are less than a few feet away
  • ability to speak clearly and hear speech of another person
  • ability to stand for long periods of time and walk for long periods of time
  • Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls, use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects
