UCT is looking for a talented Electrical Design Engineer to join us in Austin, TX The Electrical Design Engineer will be expected to support the Design Engineering team by designing, developing, installing and troubleshooting electrical and electronic systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research and analyze data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Design and develop electrical/electronic testing equipment, components, circuits and cables for new and existing products.
  • Participate in brainstorming and concept development required to successfully land new business opportunities.
  • Drive design activities and develop solutions for electrical related activities.
  • Works with account managers and operations staff to complete design requirements to customers’ specifications.
  • Actively participate in the build, troubleshooting / testing of new products and provide solutions to technical problems.
  • Enhance existing products for improved functionality, cost reduction and manufacturability.
  • Gather and analyze data with ability to format and present to customers both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, and diagrams.
  • Develop solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying electrical systems, investigating problem areas; following the development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with other team members to define requirements and develop test solutions.
  • Drive the development of qualification test procedures and carry out qualification testing.
  • Troubleshoot electro-mechanical systems and create troubleshooting instructions.
  • Prepare reports of results and conclusions for management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of specifications, drawings, BOM’s, PDM, PLM, ERP/MRP and associated applications.
  • Hands on and willingness to stay involved until the system meets all requirements.
  • Project management skills.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Basic knowledge of CAD software - Pro-Engineer, AutoCAD, Solidworks
  • Experience in working with: Open Source Hardware and Software. RPi, Arduino, Beaglebone, Linux, Python, C++.
  • Experience applying safety standards/compliance for systems integration. NEC, UL, CE, CSA, SEMI S2, etc.
  • Experience with PLC programming, Mitsubishi programming suite preferred.
  • Familiar with networking Ethernet, Devicenet, Modbus, Profibus, PLC’s, Lab View, etc.
  • Strong communications (written, verbal, listening) and team skills.
  • Strong work ethic. Fast learner with energy and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to implement and verify high quality designs in a timely; cost effective manner.
  • Computer skills, MS Office, AutoCad or ORCAD, etc.
  • Must be fluent in English both conversational and technical and must have the ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing.
  • Must have the ability to work under deadline pressures and meet project objectives within a reasonable schedule.
  • Good knowledge of electrical theories, design principles and practices and design evaluation techniques.
  • Capable of electrical circuit design, prototype fabrication and testing.
  • Excellent project and time management skills.
  • Strong verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of Windows operating system and Microsoft Office programs.
Educational/Certification Requirement:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Work Experience:
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 4+ years of experience.
Work Environment:

Environmental Exposure:
  • Ability to sit or stand for sustained periods of time.
  • Work in a manufacturing, office and/or cleanroom environment.

  • Required to wear personal protective equipment where applicable.
Overnight Travel:
  • Work may require out of town travel depending upon assignment (training and meeting).
  • Extended travel may be required but should not exceed 3 weeks per trip.
