Textum OPCO, LLC is hiring an R&D Engineer for it's Belmont, NC textile manufacturing operation.

We have unique expertise in developing textile solutions for extreme environments that we are leveraging for specialty composite production. The industries that we serve include aerospace, space, defense, energy, and infrastructure. Whether it's thermal protection systems for space vehicles, preforms for CMC components, or preforms and fabrics for carbon-carbon processing, we have the experience and expertise to help ensure our customer's success both as a reinforcement provider and through delivery of finished composite parts.

We are looking for a qualified R&D Engineer to support both internally and externally funded research and development activities related to textile design and manufacturing. This role requires a significant level of education and self-direction. The ideal candidate will have experience designing, building, and working with materials; interfacing with vendors, technicians, and peers; and communicating challenges, identifying needs, and formulating plans to overcome those challenges and needs. They will be expected to maintain safety and productivity while working on development and prototyping activities within a production environment. The R&D Engineer will perform a wide variety of hands-on activities including, but not limited to: custom material design, process development, and material fabrication and characterization.

This is a full-time, direct hire position with 1st shift hours.

Responsibilities Perform a wide variety of engineering tasks, including but not limited to: process development, prototype fabrication, and program management
  • Technology ideation
  • Help define R&D roadmaps
  • Hands-on fabrication of material specimens and system components
  • Materials characterization
  • Prototype testing
  • Generate and prepare prints, work orders, and other documents and communicate them to technicians
  • R&D scheduling and asset management
  • Integrate and coordinate with production scheduling and asset management
  • Transition new products from R&D to production
  • Assist with IP creation, documentation, and protection
  • Record all data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy and responsibility
  • Track project cost, schedule, and performance
  • Communicate results internally and externally
  • Ensure that all safety guidelines are followed strictly at all times and maintain a clean and orderly environment

Requirements

  • Applicants must be an exclusive US Citizens
  • Applicants must be willing and able to apply for and maintain a US DoD Security Clearance
  • A Ph.D. in Engineering is required
  • 2-5 years experience is a plus
  • Specialization in mechanical, aerospace, composites, textiles, or materials engineering is desired
  • Experience working with advanced textile weaving is a plus
  • Experience working with composite materials is a significant advantage
  • Strong spatial reasoning skills required
  • General mechanical/technical aptitude and good manual dexterity required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment autonomously and under pressure and complete all assigned tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and perform basic math calculations
  • Ability to solve problems using existing procedures to perform straightforward tasks
  • Can work well with others in a diverse group and foster a cooperative work environment
  • Possess a working knowledge of MS Office
  • Ability to operate a variety of hand tools and machinery
  • Candidates will be required to pass a drug test
  • Candidates will be required to pass a background check
