Job OverviewThe Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) provides expert Family-Centered Care across the wellness-illness continuum, providing primary, acute, chronic and critical care to infants and toddlers up to age 2 years. In collaboration with other health care providers the NNP will provide initial, ongoing and comprehensive care, including taking complete histories; providing physical examinations and diagnosing, treating and managing patients with acute and chronic illnesses and diseases. This includes ordering, performing, supervising, and interpreting laboratory and imaging studies; prescribing medication and durable medical equipment; and making appropriate referrals for patients and families. In addition, NNP care also includes health promotion, disease prevention, health education, and counseling. The NNP will function as a leader within nursing and inter-professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making to achieve quality patient care. Identifies and demonstrates incorporation of best current evidence with clinical expertise and patient/family preferences and values for delivery of optimal health care at the unit or organization level.

Qualifications- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing & Master's Degree NNP
- Experience: Three years' combined experience as RN or NNP in a neonatal setting. High risk neonatal setting experience preferred.
- Certification(s): BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association; Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certificate and optional Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Licensure(s): Registered Nurse License (RN); Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) License; Prescriptive Authority License; Board Certification as a NNP
This position has been defined and is governed by the Children's Hospital Colorado Medical Staff bylaws, continuation of employment is contingent upon the review and approval of the Colorado Health Care Professionals Credential Application within 3 months of employment. Failure to successfully pass the credentialing process may result in the termination of your employment. Such positions include: Advanced Practice Providers, licensed professional counselors, or Adjunct Medical Staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Family Centered Care:
- Consistently integrates age specific age specific and culturally diverse concepts into patient care, taking into consideration both the patient's chronological age and developmental functioning.
- Advocates for the neonatal patient/family/caregiver
- Promotes self-management & family centered care
- Derives outcomes & plans of care that involve the patient/family/caregiver when possible & are realistic to the patient/family/caregiver capabilities & resources
- Provides patient/family/caregiver with diagnostic & laboratory results as well as actual/potential benefits, limitations, & adverse effects of proposed therapies.
Teamwork & Collaboration:
- Provides leadership in care management to achieve optimal quality, cost-effective care.
- Documents & communicates with healthcare team members to achieve an integrated delivery of pediatric care services.
- Delegates appropriate monitoring, assessment, & interventions according to the patient and scope of practice of the caregiver; Provides consultation to influence the identified plan of care, to enhance the abilities of others to provide health care, and to effect change in the healthcare system.
- Makes appropriate referrals and discusses recommendations with patient/family/caregiver.

- Participates in quality improvement activities or research to improve the care delivery process & patient care outcomes; Uses & communicates results to initiate change in practice
- Uses creativity, new knowledge, & innovation to improve care

- Maintains a professional practice while utilizing evidenced based practice

- NNP maintains clinical competency (ability to independently manage and perform at a high level, and takes personal responsibility for obtaining competency as needed).
- Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic/non-pharmacological agents & interventions that are both universal & unique to the patient, & monitors/evaluates effects.

Other Information
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to provide and coordinate clinical practice for patients admitted to a special care nursery and/or neonatal intensive care unit, 24 hours a day, through a collaborative practice with on-call attending physician who is either on site or available by pager or phone.
- Knowledge of evidence-based clinical care practices and skills in implementing them into practice to improve outcomes.
- Maintains competency in skills/procedures
- Highly organized and ability to manage multiple patients on a care team
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary, academic health care setting as needed
- Skills in collecting pertinent patient information systematically from all sources including clinical history, diagnostic tests, comprehensive physical examinations and behavioral and developmental assessments.
- Ability to develop problem lists with associated differential diagnosis
- Knowledge of normal and abnormal variations for all body systems and ability to incorporate assessment findings into direct patient management
- Skills in evaluating patient physiological and behavioral responses to interventions for revision of management plans
- Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic/non-pharmacological agents & interventions that are both universal & unique to the patient, & monitors/evaluates effects.
- Ability to document, assess and evaluate daily all relevant data including but not limited to results of diagnostic tests, laboratory results, patients' condition, response to therapies and follow-up interventions
- Skills in assessing family communication, adaptation, and coping skills to provide the best support for the family, including recognizing when the need for crisis or other interventions may be necessary. Ability to communicate with a child's family regarding changing healthcare needs.
- Ability to utilize appropriate resources and inter-disciplinary team to establish appropriate priorities of care and implement therapies, including PharmD, formulary, attending physician and consulting services.
- Skills in performing routine diagnostic and therapeutic techniques according to established protocol and current neonatal critical care standards
- Knowledge of current NRP and AHA standards to skillfully initiate and perform measures necessary to resuscitate and stabilize a compromised neonatal/pediatric patient.
- Skills in keeping knowledge base current by reading professional literature, attending educational programs, and reviewing changes in health legislation and relevant professional research.
- Knowledge of clinical research/trials protocols and procedures in an academic setting.
SCOPE AND LEVEL
- Guidelines: Developmental, standard, or intermediate level. Guidelines are generally numerous, well established, and directly applicable to the work assignment. Work assignment and desired results are explained by general oral or written instructions.
- Complexity: Falls between the entry and full performance/senior level. Duties assigned are generally repetitive and restricted in scope but may be of substantial intricacy. Employee primarily applies standardized practices.
- Decision Making: Decisions or recommendations on non-standardized situations are limited to relating organizational policies to specific cases. Brings non routine issues to supervisor. Problems that are not covered by guidelines or that are without precedent are taken up with the supervisor.

Hourly Rate of Pay: $79.18Benefits Information
