The RAMS Adult/Older Adult Outpatient Services Clinic is located in the Outer Richmond district of San Francisco. Practice at the Clinic reflects and supports the diverse cultures, languages, and ethnicities of its clients, including immigrant and refugee families who are monolingual in an Asian & Pacific Islander or Russian language, and those who have limited English speaking ability. The Clinic provides quality, culturally competent/sensitive, consumer-centered assessment, counseling & psychotherapy, case management, psychiatric evaluation, and medication management services to adults and older adults.

Within the context of a community mental health outpatient clinic, the Nurse Practitioner assumes medical responsibility for the psychiatric care and prescribing of medications for diverse, underserved populations.

Essential Job Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, medication evaluations, and manage psychiatric care of assigned patients (e.g., provide follow up psychopharmacological treatment/management).
  • Coordinate with patient and multidisciplinary care providers regarding treatment planning, progress, and disposition.
  • Order/obtain and monitor laboratory tests.
  • Liaise/work collaboratively with other medical/clinical providers (both at RAMS or in the community) to coordinate patient care and review disposition.
  • Maintain confidential medical/treatment and billing records/documentation for all services provided as well as medications, in accordance to requirements specified by agency's policies, clinical standards, & funding sources (including Medi-Cal, Medicare, SFDPH, etc.).
  • Provide consultation and crisis management support to the Officer of the Day, as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • NP degree from an accredited medical or nursing school
  • Completion of a Nurse Practitioner psychiatry-specific training program
  • Valid California Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner License & DEA Certificate
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in working with individuals with serious and/or persistent mental health conditions, including those with co-occurring disorders
  • Demonstrated experience & knowledge/ability to independently assess, diagnose, generate comprehensive treatment plan, and carry out medication treatment and therapeutic interventions to the seriously mentally ill population
Other Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience providing medication management services to patients in community mental health settings.
  • Familiarity with SF community behavioral health systems of care, the philosophy of care, levels of care for clinical services, and the delivery of such services.
  • Knowledge of SF community resources for health, mental health, substance abuse, vocational, housing, and other services.
  • Commitment to the philosophy, goals, & mission of RAMS in providing community-based, culturally competent, and consumer-guided mental health services to underserved populations.
  • Commitment to engaging in professional development trainings, continuing education seminars, case conferences, and current literature reviews of treatment strategies for the populations served.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to interface professionally with a diverse, multi-cultural, and interdisciplinary staff at all levels.
  • Ability to provide culturally and linguistically competent services in a threshold language of populations served by the clinic, i.e. Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, or Vietnamese, highly preferred.
