Job Summary

The Director of Risk Management leads the development and execution of risk management programs to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of patients, visitors, and staff. This role focuses on risk identification, evaluation, and corrective action implementation while promoting a culture of safety. The Director collaborates with hospital administration, department leaders, and legal counsel to address risk-related concerns, ensure regulatory compliance, and advance patient safety initiatives.

Essential Functions

  • Directs the facility's risk management program, identifying and assessing risks related to patient care and service delivery.

  • Develops, implements, and revises policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment and adherence to regulatory standards.

  • Leads patient safety initiatives such as root cause analyses, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and other quality improvement activities.

  • Provides guidance on risk management practices, incident reporting, and corrective actions across departments.

  • Manages claims and litigation processes, working closely with legal counsel and maintaining comprehensive documentation.

  • Prepares and presents risk-related reports to administration, the Governing Board, and relevant committees.

  • Oversees occurrence reporting systems, analyzing data to identify trends and implement improvement strategies.

  • Manages departmental budget and resources, ensuring alignment with the hospital's mission and goals.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned and ensures compliance with policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Risk Management, or a related field required.

  • Master's Degree preferred.

  • 5-7 years of experience in risk management or patient safety required.

  • 1-3 years of leadership experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of risk management, patient safety practices, and regulatory requirements.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess and mitigate risks effectively.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting and presentations to stakeholders.

  • Proficient in Google Suite and risk management software.

  • Ability to collaborate across departments and handle complex situations with discretion.

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure preferred.

  • CPHRM - Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management preferred.
