Job Purpose

Position is responsible for analyzing, troubleshooting, recommending, installing, configuring, monitoring, and administering computer network/systems and servers. Duties include providing assistance to client staff with PC problems, application issues, and maintaining user accounts. Participates in planning to support new technologies and provides training as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned or requested.

  • Support existing servers, systems, and networks.
  • Provide security by enforcing user policies and keeping virus software up to date on workstations and servers.
  • Supports and maintains major software packages and all networking systems. Completes required periodic, scheduled, and unplanned maintenance. Conducts necessary new user training on computer use.
  • Plans for, studies the documentation, and installs new software or upgrade packages, on both workstations and network servers. Ensures requirements are met to run software and follows up on any related issues.
  • Creates, updates, and maintains both ISO procedures and standard system operation procedures.
  • Respond to problems experienced by users; resolve network, computer, and user related issues. Make minor repairs to equipment and arranges for other servicing needs.
  • Design and maintain reliable backups for necessary restore of system data.
  • Add new printers or computers, updates existing network information, and installs or upgrades applications.
  • Assists in evaluating new hardware and software; advises users on hardware and software alternatives; recommends standards for selection of software.
  • Diagnoses and repairs or oversees the repair of hardware failures and maintains inventory of equipment.
  • Specific work hours are required based on customer needs. These hours may change and some overtime may also be required to meet customer needs.
Qualifications

A working knowledge of networked systems and networked applications. Currently Microsoft base platform in an Ethernet environment.
A general knowledge of personal computers, media, printers, how to repair and upgrade systems, and installing and updating software applications.
Must have good interpersonal skills to work with users and vendors and listen effectively to their comments or system issues. Requires strong organizational and project planning skills with emphasis in prioritizing different and concurrent tasks. Must have excellent communication and analytical skills with the ability to function as a self-starter and effective team member.
Ability to identify and diagnose problems related to computer hardware and software and to find effective solutions.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Knowledge of network and computer system security.

Education and/or Experience: Degree in computer science or related field with two or more years experience in network administration, windows operating systems, or computer troubleshooting, and systems security. Or any equivalent combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
