Position Summary: This Position is on-site in Sumner, Iowa
The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for creating designs and drawings for production, resolving design challenges, and ensuring the delivery of quality products within production schedules. This includes electrical system design, component evaluation, integration of aftermarket components, and troubleshooting. The role also supports engineering team members, production staff, and supervisors to meet company goals. Regular interaction with internal and external customers is essential, and the position contributes to the Life Line Emergency Vehicle Team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design electrical systems for ambulances and integrate them with chassis systems.
  • Engineer, design, and draft electrical schematics and layouts using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Perform calculations related to energy consumption, heat dissipation, generator sizing, etc.
  • Select and specify electrical control materials.
  • Participate in product development and design-related projects.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and work orders.
  • Troubleshoot and debug electrical issues during production.
  • Update electrical documents with red-line changes.
  • Develop technical manuals and provide production support.
  • Ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively via phone, email, and in person.
  • Meet project deadlines and assist production personnel as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:
Standard hours are 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, with flexibility required. Some days may require earlier or later hours.

Position Requirements:

Experience:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Visio).
  • Ability to read blueprints and work with 3D design programs such as Inventor.
  • Proficiency with CAD software, particularly AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Experience with programming languages and microcontrollers.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or
  • Technology degree with equivalent experience.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to stand, walk, grip, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, lift, and carry.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Use of senses such as sight, touch, sound, and smell.

Work Environment:
  • Primarily indoor work, with occasional exposure to outdoor elements.
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet/humid conditions, and varying temperatures.
