Engineering Tech GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES The purpose of this position is to provide technical and research support to the City Engineer. Coordinates the timely preparation of detailed plans, specifications, reports, maps, diagrams, and quantity and cost estimates for a variety of municipal proiects such as, but not limited to public utilities, roadways, pedestrian facilities, and developments. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position. Assists the City Engineer by performing research and providing technical support for products and proiects. Prepares the drafting and design of detailed plans, specifications, and estimates for improvements to municipal proiects such as, but not limited to water distribution, sanitary sewer, stormwater systems, roadways, and pedestrian facilities. Provides design assistance to multiple City Departments. Prepare legal property descriptions, platsfor permanent and/or temporary easements, and platsfor rightof-way. Estimates construction costs and specifies materials to be used. Maintains and updates computer aided drafting and design equipment and software (AutoCAD). Maintains records of work activities and ensures proiect documents are archived for future use and audit purposes. Participates in field/site visits, land surveying, field work, and site inspections with surveyors, engineers, and inspectors. Uses survey field information to plot existing infrastructure in the Geographic Information System (GIS), assists with maintaining and updating GIS, and completes other mapping proiects for City Departments. Must operate equipment and perform all duties and tasks in accordance with safety rules and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering, Computer Aided Drafting, Surveying, or a related field, supplemented by one (I) to three (3) years of responsible engineering experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. High school or equivalent diploma required. Must possess a valid driver's license.
