Responsibilities

This is highly responsible technical work in the application of non-ionizing high frequency ultrasonic waves to patients for diagnosis of cardiac and vascular and any other diseases or abnormalities. An employee in a position allocated to this classification is responsible for performing cardiac and vascular ultrasound studies and all general studies related to abdomen, neurosonology, ophthalmology, and routine OB/GYN; preparing patients for examinations and explaining procedures; evaluating patient's clinical history and consulting with physicians to determine appropriate ultrasound procedures; recognizing structures and differentiating artifacts from normal or pathological processes; researching, developing, and recommending new procedures and techniques; providing in-service training to students and other personnel in ultrasound. Work is performed under the supervision of a manager or physician and is reviewed through observation of work while in progress and upon completion for conformance to accepted standards; prepares patients for examinations and explains procedures to patients while performing studies; evaluates the clinical history of a patient with the test to be performed; consults with physicians to determine appropriate ultrasonic procedures required. may train lower level technicians in cardiac and vascular studies. may perform cardiac/vascular studies for training purposes under direct supervision of an appropriately registered ultrasonographer or physician; recognizes the significance of all structures that are visualized on the oscilloscope at all times; differentiates artifacts from normal or pathological processes and recognizes electronic equipment limitations; researches, develops, and recommends new procedures and techniques to be used; provides in-service training to students and other personnel in ultrasound; maintains scan logs and procedure manuals; maintains service records on ultrasound equipment; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; perrforms related duties as required.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and four years allied health or patient care experience, two of which must have been full-time cardiac or vascular ultrasound experience; or completion of an allied health degree or two year training program and one year full-time cardiac or vascular ultrasound experience; or completion of an approved ultrasound training program; and RDCS/RCS and RVT/RVS registered.
