Position: Housing Area Coordinator

Department: Residence Life & Housing

Status: Full Time

Position Summary:

The Residence Life and Housing Office serves to provide an on-campus living environment that fosters academic and personal growth. Area Coordinators are full-time, live-in, professional staff members of the Residence Life and Housing Department serving as points of contact for the department and in leadership capacities for departmental efforts. Principle responsibilities include administrative responsibilities, housing operations, staff supervision and development, residential education, community development and support, and other responsibilities as a department representative. Area Coordinators play a vital role in the daily operations, assessing students' needs and assisting appropriately, and supporting our Community Assistants. Area Coordinators regularly communicate with university faculty/staff, students, and parents. Staff in this position are required to live on campus as part of their role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Administrative
  • Engage in communication with students, parents, and other stakeholders via email, phone, and meetings.
  • Utilize housing management software to manage student information and create or edit housing assignments.
  • Manage designated residential facilities and communities in collaboration with Facilities Management department.
  • Coordinates Residence Life staff to plan and prepare for fall and spring move-ins, fall and spring move-outs, summer and break housing, and early arrivals.
  • Develops materials to help educate students on housing assignments.
  • Manage and expand the Department's digital presence via social media, email marketing, and other digital means.
  • Represents department at Orientation Sessions, Open Houses, and other Admissions recruitment & retention initiatives.
  • Works collaboratively with internal and external partners to communicate and coordinate operations, services, and occupancy management.
Staff Supervision and Development
  • Provides leadership, supervision, and development for the Community Assistants within their assigned areas.
  • Assist with planning and leading staff training and ongoing development for Community Assistants.
  • Assist with recruitment, selection, and evaluation of Community Assistants.
  • Facilitate ongoing community and staff development opportunities.
Residential Education
  • Help develop, implement, and asses residential education structure.
  • Responsible for creating an environment that fosters living and learning outside of the classroom education and support for the academic mission of the University.
  • Attend programs facilitated by Community Assistants.
  • Facilitate formal and informal assessments to determine the needs of residents.
  • Provides leadership and support to residential education programming.
  • Provide guidance on the growth and development of Residential Learning Communities in assigned area.
Community Development & Support
  • Collaborate with hall staff to develop community and assist students.
  • Collaborate with hall staff in the development of activities designed to foster community and connections among residents.
  • Partner with hall staff to provide support and follow-up for students identified as at-risk or through Early Alerts.
  • Meet with students to address University policy violations.
  • Provide crisis response and conflict resolution to community residents.
  • Collaborate with University partners to maintain awareness of campus and community resources and make referrals to appropriate University partners as needed.
  • Responsible for the management and referral of incidents that occur in assigned area.
  • Serve in on-call rotation during regular operating periods and holidays.
  • Responds as needed to crisis/emergency situations and serves as needed in an on-call capacity.
  • Manage duty rotation schedule of hall staff to provide support for residents.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Support and promote department at campus events such as Move-In Days, Visitation Days, New Student Orientations, and Open House Events.
  • Manage assigned department projects/initiatives and support departmental goals.
  • Other duties as assigned by department leadership.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX, and Information Security, including but not limited to; HIPAA, FERPA and other state and federal mandates.
  • Other job-related duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
Education/Experience:
  • Master's degree not required but preferred in higher education administration, student personnel, social work, counseling, business and accounting, or related field.
  • 2-3 years' experience preferred of working in Residence Life and University Housing on a college/university campus.
  • Experience in working with college students in a residential environment.
  • Experience in staff supervision and community building.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
  • Comprehensive computer skills, with the ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology.
  • Ability to apply student affairs knowledge and practices.
  • Familiarity with housing management software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and standard methods of digital communication, including web/text/chat platforms.
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with, faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials and the public.
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Exercise good judgment in complex, new, and/or stressful situations.
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet set deadlines.
  • Adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to work in a changing environment.
  • Ability to work occasional evening or weekend hours as necessary for on-call response, move-in, welcome week, move-out, and residential life training.
