SGC is currently seeking an MAOP Technician to join out team Under supervision, the Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP) Technician supports pipeline integrity management programs by conducting technical evaluations and analyses on pipeline systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review pipeline design, construction, operating, maintenance and testing data to determine maximum allowable operating pressures under federal regulations.
  • Perform engineering assessments using data such as pipe wall thickness, grade, seam type, leak history, corrosion defects, and flow stress.
  • Document MAOP values, methods, and technical limitations for each pipeline segment.
  • Prepare technical reports with logic and methodology for assigned MAOP values.
  • Coordinate review meetings to explain MAOP recommendations to management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Solid understanding pipeline regulatory codes (49 CFR Subparts 192 and 195).
  • Fundamental knowledge of construction and operation of high-pressure pipelines.
  • Knowledge of gas and hazardous liquid flow mechanics and engineering mechanics.
  • Knowledge of pipe and component materials specifications, documentation, construction techniques and testing methods.
  • Knowledge of pipeline hydraulics, corrosion control, and operating parameters.
  • Proficient in using relevant software platforms such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe.
  • Proficient in Bluebeam and basic understanding of CAD and GIS platforms.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational aptitude and ability to follow detailed instructions accurately.
  • Ability to develop detailed technical reports and documentation.
  • Ability to analyze complex pipeline data sets and calculations.
  • Ability to travel and/or work additional hours as needed to meet project requirements and deadlines.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and meeting deadlines.


Education and Experience:
  • 5 years of survey field experience and proficient computer skills.
Physical Demands:
  • Duties are performed in both an indoor an outdoor environment.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time while visiting project sites.
  • Must be able to traverse uneven terrain and occastionally lift or carry equipment.
  • Must be prepared for exposure to extreme weather conditions while working outdoors.
  • May need to work safely around hydrocarbon gases, high-pressure systems, and underground excavations using PPE as prescribed.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to read prints, reports, and measurement instrument displays.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers and clients. Must be able to exchange accurate information.
  • Must be able to travel with potential for overnight stays.
