The Weitz Company is seeking a Lighting Estimator II to work with our Preconstruction group and Supply Chain Division. This position is located out of the Des Moines, Iowa office.
This candidate is responsible for performing lighting take-offs, and working with our manufacturer's representative. This individual contributor will work closely with the leadership team to drive performance across all projects.
What You'll Do:
- Develop a personal process to learn all aspects of a project (plans, specifications, reports, etc.)
- Read and develop an understanding of all technical plans, specifications and related documents.
- Develop an understanding of the estimating software system and utilize company standards to produce reliable, complete, consistent, and well-documented quantity survey in a timely manner, as directed.
- Assist in the development of complete project quantities on incomplete plans and specifications, as directed.
- Assist in conducting organized sub and vendor solicitation as directed. Accurately communicate the required scope of work. Ensure complete trade coverage is obtained and advise project lead of potential solicitation shortfalls.
- Develop the ability to produce a scope of work for subcontractor solicitation.
- Develop an understanding of the process for maintaining a record set of estimating documents including all addenda, changes, and clarifications.
- Utilize the established filing system to gather project information.
- Manage fixture package pricing from conceptual through purchase order
- Creation of Project Procurement Plans to support Supply Chain activities for Weitz construction projects.
- Preparing RFI/RFP packages, evaluating proposals and responses, performing commercial analysis and creating recommendations to award
- Serving as the Supply Chain representative working with pre-construction and project managers in project specification and development
- Negotiation of terms and conditions with suppliers
- Analyze and track Supplier performance and develop reports to ensure compliance to contracted KPI's
- Presents to internal teams on metrics, project status and research
- Coordinate with other supply chain professionals and business unit employees at all levels
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Business travel may be required
What We're Looking For:
- Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Supply Management, Business, Economics, Engineering or equivalent industry experience is preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of three (3) years' experience working with lighting and lighting design. Three to five years of procurement management experience in a commercial and/or industrial construction environment. Candidate must have experience collaborating with lighting agents. Candidate must have extensive knowledge of plan reading, take-offs, value engineering, product line pricing, and the bid process.
- Skills: A qualified candidate will demonstrate effective communication, attention to detail, judgment, initiative, time management, flexibility, problem solving, multi-tasking and the ability to maintain a pleasant and positive attitude, even in difficult situations, and possess comfort with ambiguity. Strong comprehension of how lighting integrates in a building by understanding where the various parts are placed, and how they will interact and coordinate with each other.
- Technology: Proficiency in basic computer software programs such as Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Employee should have the ability to learn other specific software (JDE, Procore, etc.).
