Compensation

Mount Sinai South Nassau provides a salary range in good faith determination of potential compensation to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Position Summary

The Music Therapist provides Music Therapy to pediatric, NICU, and pediatric behavioral health patients that will foster positive growth, development, coping, and adjustment to healthcare settings. The Music Therapist is recognized as a mental health professional and is responsible for planning and implementing therapeutic interventions for patients using formal programming. Interventions are designed specifically to assist children and families in coping with the stress and trauma often associated with hospitalization. The Music Therapist provides ongoing assessment of child and family interventions and is an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, supporting the social and emotional well-being of the child and family.

Provides innovative and creative music therapy interventions for hospitalized pediatric patients with a wide variety of diagnoses. Engages in treatment planning and provides music therapy services directly to the patients and families in accordance with orders received from medical and multidisciplinary teams to support patient goals. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of goal-oriented patient and family centered care and promote a safe environment.

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, designs, implements and promotes individualized music experiences to assess, treat, and evaluate neonatal and pediatric patients. Implements programs with individuals as well as groups, to facilitate optimal patient outcomes in areas including, but not limited to, reducing pain and anxiety, improving stress management, communication, emotional expression, and rehabilitative movement therapies. Documents a plan of care, and are relevant to identified patient/family needs, medical diagnoses, and courses of therapy, identified goals of care.

Qualifications

Education Required
• Must complete in-house orientation program
• Bachelor's degree in music therapy required, master's degree preferred.

Experience And Skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Speaks, reads and writes English
• Experience working with neonates in an intensive care unit and medical environment

License/Certifications
• Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC)
• LCAT preferred

Working Conditions
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worn
• Work requires walking, sitting, standing, lifting, stooping, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, and carrying.
• Must be able to lift and support 20 pounds of weight, in handling patients, musical equipment and supplies.
• Essential technical, as well as fine and gross motor skills required related to performing duties of music therapy as well as documentation.
