Industrial Laundry Technician

Pellerin Laundry Machinery Sales Company, Inc. is a full service distributor of industrial, commercial, and institutional laundry equipment. We have been providing successful laundry solutions to our customers, who are predominately in the South Central United States, for well over 90 years.
This position is for an Industrial Laundry Technician located in Birmingham, AL. This technician will service northern Alabama and sometimes portions of Mississippi.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an industrial laundry technician or a similar role with a focus on industrial machine repair.
- Strong mechanical skills and the ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues.
- Familiarity with industrial laundry equipment, including washers, dryers, and finishing equipment.
- Proficient in reading equipment manuals, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to interact with clients and team members.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to handle heavy equipment and perform repairs.
Needed Skills:
- Mechanical: Understanding the basic mechanical components of washers and dryers is crucial. This includes knowledge of the drum, bearings, belts, pulleys, and seals. Inspecting these components helps identify wear and tear, misalignment, or damage. Diagnosing mechanical issues involves recognizing symptoms like unusual noises, vibrations, or leaks. Repairing mechanical issues may involve tasks like replacing damaged belts, realigning misaligned parts, or greasing bearings. Understanding how these components interact and affect the machine's operation is crucial.
- Electrical: Inspecting electrical connections, wiring, and components like heating elements, thermostats, and sensors is essential. Knowledge of how these electrical parts function is vital for identifying faults. Electrical diagnosis requires understanding circuits, voltage, and continuity. Electrical repairs include tasks like replacing faulty switches, thermostats, or wiring. Knowledge of how to safely disconnect and connect electrical components is vital to prevent hazards. A strong grasp of electronic control systems, including sensors, proprietary software, and electronic control panels, is vital. Understanding how these systems regulate and monitor equipment is essential.
- Pneumatic: Knowledge of pneumatic systems, including the use of compressed air for power and control, is essential. Understanding how pneumatic valves, actuators, and component’s function is necessary. Technicians should be skilled in inspecting pneumatic components like valves, actuators, air compressors, and tubing for leaks, blockages, or wear. Identifying and replacing faulty pneumatic parts is critical. Proficiency in diagnosing pneumatic system issues, such as loss of pressure or erratic actuator movement, is essential. Technicians should be able to troubleshoot pneumatic circuits and resolve problems efficiently.
- Hydraulic: Proficiency in hydraulic systems, including knowledge of hydraulic fluid properties, pressure control, and fluid flow, is crucial. Understanding how hydraulic systems generate and control power is essential. Skill in inspecting hydraulic components such as pumps, valves, cylinders, and hoses for leaks, wear, and damage is necessary. Technicians should be able to identify and replace faulty hydraulic components. Competence in diagnosing hydraulic system issues, such as low pressure or slow operation, is vital. Technicians should be capable of troubleshooting hydraulic circuits and identifying the source of problems
- Safety Systems: Technicians must be well-versed in safety systems integrated into the equipment, such as emergency stop buttons and safety switches. Understanding how to test and maintain these systems to ensure user safety is a necessity.
- Documentation: Proper documentation involves recording the condition of mechanical components, detailing any repairs made, and noting when replacements are anticipated based on wear and tear.
Physical Requirements: Must be ability to drive and perform assigned tasks and duties described above in fluctuating seasonal weather and light condition in locations that can require overnight travel. Must be able to spend the night at out of town lodging as needed . Must be able to bend, twist, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach, and work in tight or restrictive spaces. . Must be able to read, write, comprehend, and follow diagrams, manuals, and instructions. Lifting 50 pounds unassisted , and regularly negotiating stairs and move about on foot is required. Must possess the manual dexterity necessary to perform mechanical and electrical diagnosis and repairs, as well as installations . Must be able to complete full day assignments . Must be able to positively identify different colors of wiring. Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers required. Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment as needed. Must have the ability to work at low and possibly elevated heights. Must be able to physically work up to ten-hour and possibly longer days. Physical work is a primary part of the job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to recognize and handle exposure to moving parts and electricity that require adherence to safety awareness and protocols . Must be able to handle and speak calmly, clearly , and persuasively in a respectful manner in positive or negative situations involving customers. Must be able to listen and get clarification of issues and concerns. Must be able to carry and climb ladders of all types. This work regularly may involve overhead work.
