Stevenson School seeks a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), weekend shift for an early August start date. The weekend LVN will report to the dean of students and be an integral member of the School's on-campus health center team. Regular working schedule will be Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. During each shift worked, the weekend nurse will complete rounds throughout the dorms to assess and treat students, as needed. Special meetings will be required outside designated hours. This is a 10-month/year, part-time, non-exempt position. The candidate must be able to work all weekends throughout the school year.

The qualified candidate will be a licensed LVN with a current license to practice in California and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and professional confidence to independently assess the level of acute care needed. Ideal candidates will possess an enthusiasm for working with the 14-19 year old age group.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Intervene with actual and potential student health problems
  • Provide case management support
  • Actively collaborate with health center team to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy
  • Work closely with the health center staff and dean of students to adhere to policies and procedures put in place to protect the community from communicable illness
  • Medication management, administration, and documentation in EHR
  • Coordinate care between student, MD, parents, counselors, and administration
  • Arrange and sometimes accompany student to office or ER visits
  • Triage, respond to and treat acute illnesses and injuries
  • Initiate and provide emergency care
  • Provide care for crisis intervention, acute illness, injury, and emotional concerns
  • Observe and communicate potential problems
  • Maintain a safe campus environment by monitoring supplies and equipment
  • Perform routine and random drug testing on students as assigned by the dean's office
  • Work as a team with counselors, athletics, faculty and staff
Required Qualifications:
  • Current LVN license to practice in California
  • Minimum of associates degree
  • Minimum of 3-years of nursing experience in a health care setting; prior experience in an educational setting or adolescent practice preferred
  • Working knowledge of applicable state and federal health care laws and regulations
  • Proven ability to communicate well with others
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to apply good clinical judgment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development
  • The candidate must be able to work collaboratively as part of a team and make decisions independently
  • Working well with adolescents and strong assessment skills are required
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast paced environment
  • Highest standard of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to analyze emergency situations accurately and take prompt action
  • Computer and software skills and ability including knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google

Anticipated hourly rate of pay for this position is $32 - $36/hour, based on experience.
