Performs MRI procedures and related techniques to produce diagnostic images for physician interpretation. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team, participating in projects as requested. Is able to work independently and perform all high-level MRI exams such as perfusion, cardiac, spectroscopy and biopsies and instruct others on high level scanning protocols. Ability to set up the I-Med and MRI monitoring equipment. Able to adjust the MRI schedule and staffing to meet patient and department needs. Assist MRI Coordinator with administrative duties as needed.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs procedures or examinations under the order of a licensed medical practitioner for diagnostic interpretation.
  • Prepares patient for procedures.
  • Provides patient instruction to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Applies principles of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self and others.
  • Selects and operates the magnetic resonance system, surface coils, physiologic gating devices, and associated equipment to achieve desired results.
  • Positions the patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability, safety and comfort.
  • Immobilizes patients as required for appropriate examination.
  • Selects appropriate pulse sequences with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
  • Performs venipuncture, starts and maintains venous access.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media.
  • Verifies consent/screening form. Uses appropriate scripting, barriers and identifiers. Flexes hours/shifts to meet the needs of the dept.
  • Assists the physician with interventional procedures.
  • Practices aseptic technique and observes universal precautions.
  • Evaluates images and data for technical quality.
  • Manipulates and reconstructs digital data for display, ensuring proper identification is evident.
  • Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
  • Uses radiology information systems (including PACS), completes all required records and reports, archives and submits images for physician review and interpretation.
  • Initiates basic life support action when necessary.
  • Provides practical instruction to partners and students. Completes projects requested by manager or coordinator in an agreed upon time frame.
  • Assists with MRI Safety Committee.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited radiography or MRI program

5years experience as an MRI Technologist

Experience with ACR Accreditation

Advanced level experience with PACS and Epic RIS

CERTIFICATION/ LICENSURE

ARRT Radiography Certification required.

ARRT MRI Certification required

CPR certification required

WI-DSPS, IEMA depending on State preferred

MRSO certification preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Passing the Driver's License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring).

Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check.

Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Inventory software and Order processing systems.
