Job Summary

The IT specialist position installs, modifies, and makes minor repairs to personal computer hardware and software systems, and provides technical advice and support to system users. Responsible for IT and network infrastructure needs and will diagnose computer problems, monitor computer processing systems, install software, and perform tests on computer equipment and programs. This person will be responsible for the creation of all employee e-mail accounts, assist with implementation of e-mails and management of issues as it relates to computer needs, as well as training personnel to use programs. This person will recommend and draft security protocols, monitor security processing systems, install software, and perform tests on security equipment and program.

Essential Functions:
  1. Ensure the streamlined operation of the IT department in alignment with the business objectives of the organization.
  2. Define, plan, and coordinate the creation, reporting, and testing of Disaster Recovery plans for the Disaster
  3. Act as a liaison to teams in applying a framework to their technology solutions.
  4. The IT specialist plan, coordinate, direct and design IT-related activities of the organization, as well as provide administrative direction and support for daily operational activities of the IT department. The IT specialist will work closely with decision-makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization. The IT specialist will also define and implement IT policies, procedures and best practices.
  5. Identifies and procures the hardware and software needed to satisfy user requirement.
  6. Oversee provision of end-user services, including help desk and technical support services.
  7. Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade and support of all IT systems, including telecommunications, servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, peripherals and Office Automation equipment.
  8. Negotiate and administer vendor, outsourcer and consultant contracts and service agreements.
  9. Installs hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers and disk drives on users’ premises.
  10. Loads appropriate software packages such as operating systems, networking components and office applications.
  11. Assists in the customization and adaptation of existing programs to meet users’ requirements.
  12. Provides telephone, in-person and online support to end-users.
  13. Coordinates activities with network services and information systems groups.
  14. Provides updates, status and completion information to manager and/or users, via voice mail, e-mail or in-person communication.
  15. Refers major hardware problems to service personnel for correction.
  16. Connects users to networks and provides initial training in facilities and applications.
  17. Administers e-mail and anti-virus systems.
  18. Rotates daily back-up media.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science or related field required
  • 1- 2 years in IT or Business Systems
  • 3 years of relevant IT experience
  • Industry certifications and memberships a plus
  • Excellent IT, communication, leadership and management skills
  • Proven track record of maintaining IT structural integrity
  • Be available for a deployment of 120 days minimum
  • Willing to travel

Working Conditions/ Physical Effort

Work is performed mostly in an office setting. Some overnight travel, public speaking, evening and weekend work are requirements of the position. Regular computer works also required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; finger, handle, or feel objects, or controls; reach; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
